Cat Crack
This cat goes nuts over this stuff. I don’t know what they put in there but it’s probably the next conspiracy

We're fastering a (formerly) feral cat. She was trapped when she was pregnant, raised her kittens in another foster home where they were then adopted out.
When she came to us in early Nov, she was (no pun intended) practically catatonic. She was absolutely terrified of people, and for the first 5-7 days, she literally would just curl into a corner and only leave that corner to use the litter box and to eat/drink.
We let her basically alone for the first few days, and I would go in the room, sit about 6 feet away from her, and just sit there and read and be quiet, with no sudden movements. The next step was occasionally sitting closer to her, offering her a treat or two, and then lightly petting her while she ate the treats.
Now here we are a few months later, she's still skittish, but she'll come to us when we call her, will play with her toys, and cuddle on the bed at night (she early on decided the bed was a safe space for her). She still doesn't like being picked up, but she doesn't fight or get aggressive. We're hoping to find her a permanent home soon.
She loves those treats (those have the filling on the inside?), but her favorites are these small 'Jerky Treats' that are a little chewy. I've actually started using them to try to train her a bit. We put some catnip out a few days ago, and in a toy. She seems kind of ambivalent to it, but I might try to grow some fresh catnip and see how she reacts.

All three of mine only exhibit some mild interest in the dried catnip, but they go absolutely crazy for it if it’s fresh. Like bonkers lol.
I brought some in the house in clay planters and they promptly broke them all by rubbing and rolling all over the catnip.

If there's a Trader Joe's near where you live, they have treats all cats love. Parsley will stand for them and she's a queen. They come in a little tube with a red lid. Bear prefers the green Temptations though.

We've got catnip growing by the front door, and the outside cats we feed love to roll in it after eating. The bottom of the storm door is glass, and my GFs cat gets upset when he sees that which seems to make the outside cats like it even more.

Our cat loves Sheba Meaty Tender Sticks. If I toss one down the basement stairs she will run down to it, pick it up and bring it back, dropping it at my feet, so I can toss it down again. She will do this maybe 5 or 6 times before eating it. Ours is an indoor cat and I'm assuming this takes care of her urge to hunt.

My Persian cat loves those Temptations treats. The other two don't care. All of them love catnip.

Although-- my mom had a cat who really had a thing for the pill pockets (she had to take a pill, and received it in the pill pocket). The problem is that my mom also took a lot of pills because of several health conditions, so every time it was time for her meds, the cat would come running as soon as she heard a pill bottle rattle... it was funny watching my mom try to get out her meds, get a pill out of the bottle, etc. without making any noise...
Must remember this for my friend with rabbits (hers go nutters over bananas).

I switched from the bag to the plastic container of treats, and it didn't take long for the new sound to produce the same results.

My cats got one of these for xmas. We've already been through 3 sets of batteries. Sometimes one of them will sit in front of it and look at me until I turn it on. Even the 16 year old likes playing with it, warms my heart.
Bear showed me all the ways he knows to get it, and I feel like that means he needs a new toy. I'd love recommendations. Mostly when I look at cat toys I think "that's stupid they'd never play with it" and I'm wrong a lot.

It doesn't really stick out like that, it mostly moves under the cloth, it drives them crazy.

Well, our foster wasn't particularly affected by the dry catnip. I think I have some catnip seed around here somewhere. I'll mix it with some cat grass and see what happens when it sprouts.

Nah. I do adore her now, but we're going to have a couple of (online) foster meetings this week to try to get her adopted to her hopefully permanent family.
We've fostered before a few times (and yes, I cry every time they go off to foster, but it's part of the gig). We will be adopting again in the spring when we can get a couple kittens that we can raise.

Ours loves one of these floppy fish, at least it's USB rechargeable, we bought the orange one that looks like a carp, about 10 inches long, articulated almost in the middle : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...12JCNZYA&psc=1
warning that it's not silent due to flopping about.
