It seems like the gravitas of being in the hall of fame becomes more diluted each year. It's one thing to be a liked and favorite band of one's time but to hold a title as being in the hall of fame takes a little more than that.

I agree. Rage Against the Machine? Sorry. Devo? Different, but Hall of Fame material? Two locks on that list for me are Chaka and LL. Some people probably don't know that Chaka was with the group Rufus. Probably Fela as well, but he's relatively obscure. I'll bet the average Joe has no idea who he was.

You missed Tina Turner for a solo artist nomination, who along with Carole King as an artist nomination and already as a writer member would join Stevie Nicks as the only women double members….and both are well deserved!!!!…and Mary J. Blige and also Fela Kuti’s contribution to Afro-Cuban/funk/jazz and then his social issue music with Egypt ’80 should also be recognized ftw too

Is there a window of eligibility like there is for baseball? We have acts here from twenty and forty years ago but no one left from, say, the Beatles era

Googling my own question, it's at least 25 years from first studio release.

Obviously we all need to get behind the Foo Fighters, who have fought for us here in Foo for so long

Big YES to Carole King, Kate Bush, Iron Maiden (I hope they bring Eddie to the ceremony!), The New York Dolls, Todd Rundgren, Mary K. Blige

Chaka Khan - I'd rather the whole Rufus band get in as one, great R&B/funk music came outta that 'crew'.

The Go-Gos - no, I'd rather see their contemporaries The Bangles get inducted.

Most of the rest I'm either not that familiar with, or they don't really add anything to the R&R music genre (especially those who are just singers).

Sorry. Operator error in copy and paste.

Dude from the Foo Fighters is also already in as a member of Nirvana, if I’m not mistaken.

Todd is from just across the border from my hometown of Philly. Back in the 80s I saw L.L. while I was waiting for an very early morning Amtrak train to NYC. He had performed at a show the previous night. Guess he wasn’t yet wealthy enough to afford private transportation.

Iron Maiden ..... Hip Hop and new wave is Rock n Roll? Who cares it is diluted anyways just what the critics like. It took KISS too long to get in because the critics hated them. Sell over 100 million records and I guess people hated you

Despite my love of their music, I've always been a little unclear if they are fighting for or against Foo.

The name has been a misnomer for a long time. Think of it as a music hall of fame.

Now would be a good time to tell the story about when I brought a room service to Tina Turner. She was still with Ike at the time though.
I'm pretty sure she would remember me as the nerdy white guy at that hotel in Iowa.

Many of the earliest acts inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame were blues and R/B and even some country artists who gave important roots to rock and roll. Artists whose attitude, sound and performance style had impacted rock much like the lyricism and sonic detail of hip-hop has since the 90’s….but then I’m inclusive enough to see the positive aspect and recognition of the culture-shifting roots now in some of the nominees and members.

Agree 100%. I recall hearing an interview with Gene Simmons from Kiss. He complained about acts who were not considered by a certain segment as being R&R being inducted.

As a music lover and former guitar player (hands don't work so well anymore, but I am fumbling my way through the harmonica!) I must ask the one question that many other musician friends of mine ask all the time about the music hall of fame, "Who cares?"

I would like to go to the rock n roll hall of fame. I use to live in the mistake by the lake as a kid in the 1970s a few years after the fire dept was called to put out the river I haven’t been back but I understand they have cleaned up very well.

My former manager bought the pyramid from Todd Rundgren's Utopia and put it at his house. https://web.archive.org/web/20121007...massachusetts/
