Witchiepoo, we hardly knew ye

Billie Hayes died yesterday, at (holy cow) 96 years old. She was Witchiepoo on HR Puffenstuff. Her overacting was perfect for the role. Does anyone else remember this drug-fueled madness from Syd and Marty Kroft?

They also made The Banana Splits,

Lidsville, with Charles Nelson Riley. along with Billie Hayes and Eddie Munster,

and The Land of the Lost.

There were more, and I don't remember them all. Jim Nabors and Ruth Buzzi in a UFO?

I was in high school or college when those were on the air so I missed out. That shows my age...

I think I can still name all the Banana Splits.... Flegal, Snorky, and the other two.

Those were some fun counter-culture cartoons.

HR Pufnstuf. Oh yeah, all the time as a kid. Gateway drug. I can still hear the theme song in my head.

When I was a kid Syd and Marty Croft had a semi permanent "circus" style event that went on here in Atlanta. It was at or around the same time as the TV show and I recall being simply astounded that I was seeing those same people there were in the TV.

Almost the same here. My brother, who is seven years younger than me, watched that *****. I think I was early teens when that stuff was on the air. It was just too stupid for me to pay much attention to it.

It was certainly stupid. If you were an Iowa farm kid in the 1960's, it was awesome (relative to your boring existence among the pigs and far away from your friends).
Also, I had a little boy-crush on Jack Wild.

Damn! I'm starting to be sorry I missed that stuff. All I had on Saturday mornings in the late 50's and 60's were racist Warner Bros. cartoons. Of course the racism was balanced with jokes about handicaps and disabilities.

Good Times...
