September Photo Challenge - Harvest Time

September, in the northern hemisphere it is the first month of fall and the traditional beginning of the school year. In the southern hemisphere it is the first month of spring.

Earth, Wind & Fire even had a song titled September

From the Latin Septem, meaning 7, it was the 7th month in the Roman calendar with March being the start of the year. Why is it the 9th month in our current calendar you may ask? The Roman Senate, after a rebellion in 154 BCE, moved the start of the Roman year to January making it the 9th month. In 46 BCE Julius Caesar added 10 days to the year and September picked up one of them, making it a 30 day month.

The United States federal holiday of Labor Day is celebrated on the 1st Monday of the month. Labor Day

In China the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebration of the full moon and occurs on the 21st in 2021. Mid-Autumn Festival

The Equinox occurs this year on the 22nd when day and night are nearly the same length. The full moon around this time (September 20th in 2021) is known as the Harvest Moon in the northern hemisphere because the full moon gave famers extra light to harvest their fall crops.

I've chosen crops or harvesting as the September photo topic.

I've been meaning to find a photo out riding since I am in an agricultural area, but haven't seen anything that caught my eye & when I do I'm usually on group ride. I have 3 large oak trees & 5 pines, and quite a few dogwoods that produce these colorful red berries in the fall. I harvest leaves this time of year ! Many of my neighbors have cut their trees but I like them, even with the extra work from raking leaves in the fall

Love trees. The wrong tree in the wrong spot can be tough for a homeowner to deal with, so I understand cutting them.

This was a great topic choice and we've had beautiful fall harvest weather here but I've been to busy to get in any photography. So, I dredged through some old photos this morning and found this one I took in one of the Miao rural minority villages in the Guizhou Province of south-central China. It's a few years old but I'll go ahead and post it since there aren't many entries this month.

Only 8 postings for the September challenge, Powerball numbers last night were
28
38
42
47
52
01

For change I added the numbers, took the square root and divided by 2. Rounded down it is #7.

Congratulations SkinGriz, your turn.
