I wondered what was going on when Charlie dropped out of the planned tour due to unspecified health issues. Seems unfair that one of the two guys who actually got regular exercise and seemed to live right would be the first of the current Stones lineup to die.

Rock music has been filled with competent but forgettable drummers. I suspect it's because Charlie Watts created so many memorable drum riffs within the basic rock format, he didn't leave much room for anyone else to innovate.

Many recent passing of rock musicians the last few years. I’m trying to see all the bands before they are gone. I hope AC/DC will tour again soon. Their recent album is good they didn’t lose any of their edge.

I'm glad I got to see the Stones among many other groups I love before it was too late. That was in '89, and I thought they were pretty old then, but the show was amazing!

In my opinion, certainly one of classiest musicians in R&R. had an understated style, that like Ringo, defined the sound of the band. They'll get a replacement, but it'll never be the same, just like it wasn't when The Who replaced Moon. I think Led Z had it right,

Seems appropriate that Charlie's ticking drumbeat opens Time Waits For No One and is the last thing we hear in the fade out.

Steve Jordan was already slated to play the upcoming gigs, but I don't think we'll see them stateside again. They'll probably do a few final gigs elsewhere, but I think this means they are essentially done. But what a run it has been.

I was reading an article about this earlier. It went on to mention him as one of the "legendary talents in rock drumming".....I just am not sure that I would say that about his beats. Neil Peart, yes.

his notoriety, then perhaps his style (maybe), but not really his skill. any honest fan would/should say that. he was a product of the 60's, though. rock beats were still pretty simple

And yet Keith Richards is still going some how?

Never was a huge Rolling Stones fan but damn they have lasted and I gotta give them big credit. Sad to lose another good drummer and from all accounts Charlie was a class act.

Yeah, all these decades, Stones kept quiet about Charlie's awful secret... lifetime stable marriage... normal wife and kids... no scandals... no major drug or alcohol problems... nice guy, loved by everyone who knew him... only punched Mick Jagger once over that "You're my drummer!" "NO, you're MY singer!" incident.

Frikkin Charlie Watts RUINED THE ROLLING STONES!!! They've been faking it all these years!

He was definitely different than all others in this crazy world of Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll.

RIP Charlie Watts, you deserve it.

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...-b1908176.html

Charlie Watts drew a sketch of every bed he ever slept in.

The Rolling Stones drummer, 80, started the drawings in 1968 while on tour and did it right up until his death, on Tuesday (24 August).

Watts told Rolling Stone: “I make a sketch of every bedroom I sleep in. I’ve sketched every bed I’ve slept in on tour since about 1968.”
