Hey, Captain Kirk is going to space.

Yup, another goofy tourist launch by Blue Origin.

"10 minute ride."

I do note that William Shatner is NOT wearing a red shirt.

Another 10 minute "thrill ride" to the edge of space... the Kármán line. 62 miles up. NASA sent mice and monkeys into orbit. Blue Origin just does a quick "elevator ride" up and back. Low Earth Orbit low altitude is 100 miles. ISS is at 254 miles.

I'm not an astronaut but I play one on TV. Or if Amazon wants me as a gimmick. If I get gifted a $250k ride to not-really-space, do I owe taxes on the gift?

Nah, do it with physics... make everybody on the ground look old, then when they all come out, look at them wide-eyed and say, "how fast did you go????"

Would've been nice if the actor had rehearsed his lines for the post-ride interview... or had a writer come up with something memorable.
Instead we got "gee whiz that was cool", and "the thin blue line is thin"

Who would win in a MMA style fight? Kirk or Picard? I think it would be a draw. Spock vs Worf? Maybe Kirk and Spock vs Picard and Worf in a tag team wrestle match.

I wouldn't take on Picard. He looks more like an assassin than a fighter. As soon as Kirk squared off for a leap-kick, Picard would blast him into oblivion.

Spock vs Worf -- assuming they stayed consistently within character, I'd pick Spock. Worf, inexplicably, couldn't fight his way out of a cold cup of Earl Grey tea, unless he was on the holodeck. I kept wondering whether it was some sort of inside joke that Worf got his butt kicked by smaller opponents across the universe.

Reminds me of my granddad, a huge, strong guy who lost every fight he was in, according to his many tall tales of roaming the rails and looking for work during the Great Depression. I'm betting he was terrified of hurting anyone so he wouldn't fight. He could have a bad temper and sharp tongue, but was never physically violent in any way. But he was so strong he could lift the end of his small tractors.

I was convinced he had a profound experience. I think that's pretty cool.

Picard would win. Before he was a Star Fleet captain, he was Warmaster for House Atreides and trained people in hand to hand combat.

And how much more for all the discussion and pr content that needed to be broadcast around the world? I never liked that guy myself, I was rooting for an explosion.
