Metallica Pittsburg Pennsylvania

Got my ticket for Metallica in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania the town a lived in for 4 years as a young kid. Aug 14 PNC Park. I was in Hershey last summer so why not Pennsylvania again? Not too many seats left so luckily I found some dots one the lower deck anyways Iím going to be there. Havenít seen Metallica since 1989 and I never thought they would be selling out stadiums in 2022. So WTH booking a flight on Southwest and going.

I definitely have nearly zero in Metallica (and absolute zero -- so, like -400į Kelvin, right?) interest in driving 4 hours to see them. But I'd like to know more about the 4 years you lived in Pittsburgh: When, and where?

I lived in four different residences in Pittsburgh between the ages of 2 months and 10 years, from 1961-71. I've been back only 3 times since, and every visit is a complete mind****, weird waves of dream-like nostalgia and surreal semi-familiarity.

Between Green Tree and Mt Lebanon no I am not rich this was in 1969-1973. A whole different life. I remember the snow and the hills. Tunnels and the large rivers. Cruised the GAP into Pittsburg back in 2017.

Ditched the rental car booked a downtown hotel since you can walk to everything. Take a cab from the airport to downtown will cheaper than renting a car and paying for parking. Thinking about seeing the Steelers playing the Seahawks in a preseason game. I know preseason games are boring but it is something to do.

I regret never trying to play a guitar or drums. Found Led Zeppelin In Through The Out Door on vinyl at the local Walmart. Different sounding Zep album but not as bad as some say. Has a few of their hits on there. Being that was Zeps last album before Bonham died and after that was the end of Led Zeppelin.

I forgot about Coda.

Score! The red headed step child of Walmarts the Hondo Walmart stocked some new vinyl finally! Saw Led Zeppelin 2 and 3 so I over spent and got them. Couldn’t help it. Led Zeppelin sounds great on vinyl I’m guessing because the manner of production back then.

I like the vinyl the art work yes CDs have better sound but this takes me back when records in this format was cool. I notice young people are buying vinyl now. I ask this young woman how she got into vinyl. She said her grandparents have an old turntable and a lot of classic rock albums. I was like Cool.

Lars Ulrich the most successful off time drummer on the planet and Kirk Hammett, great collection of guitars that he can't really play. James Hetfield and their various bassists have been good it is shame they couldn't ditch the dead weight and find some talent. I mean I get it Lars put the advert up so I guess he could be a backup dancer behind James and Kirk could be plugged into a fake amp and just look cool. Pay them plenty of money and find someone who can play in time with everyone else or in tune.

He would have made a great Gollum from Lord of the Rings.

Maybe that was who Plant was referring to in Ramble On.

I was looking at the best drummers list of all time then the hundreds of arguments on the comments section. Music is subjective to me because I don’t really know all the technical stuff.

The Hondo Walmart is getting their cred back from being the red headed step child of Walmarts. Found this vinyl there I was like put it my cart before someone would snag it. The electronics area lady started laughing with me and at me. I don’t care I scored well at least some new vinyl.

Oh man, that LP looks like it's been ridden hard and put away wet...a proper "player". And through a silverface Fender? I'm jealous.

Interesting fact, Metalica could have had Kirk Hammett's high school buddy Les Claypool on bass ... wonder how that would have gone. He admits he was too weird for a metal band

Lester is a fine bassist but Metallica hasn't had a bassist problem that is the one thing they have gotten right and if Cliff hadn't died and Jason left they would have been really good. Ron seemed like a decent bassist as well and his garage demos are probably some of the best of Metallica it is so raw.

Now maybe if they put old Les on the guitar and Kirk could be a backup dancer it would be perfect. A little weird but rather weird than not able to play.

Not surprised about James Hatfields insecurity. I think many massively successful people don't feel their success / greatness. It causes them to push beyond where others quit which creates the success, but doesn't fill the hole in their spirit.

All I know if all goes well I will be at PNC Park in Pittsburg Pennsylvania on Aug 14. I already had a cancellation on Aerosmith in Las Vegas so if this gets all F up I will go my old hometown. Airline cancellations and other F ups. Hopefully I will be there rocking out.

Flying to Pittsburg on a Friday. The concert is on a Sunday. Flying home on Tuesday. Gives a good buffer or unreliable flight schedules. And a few days to go to the museums and science centers etc. Hopefully it will all go well.
