Perfomancebike scumbags?

What the hell is this?

I was paying my bills today (do most of it online) and noticed a charge on my credit card from Performance bike for a "catalog" for $5.

I bought an item from them about 2 months ago, but that was it. Did they keep my credit card number and try to get a monthly fee out of me to send me their catalog (which I did not request)? It's only $5, but its principle....that's crap to be charging for things that I didn't order.

I just sent their customer service a scathing email (cust. serv. phones aren't open weekends).

Anybody else noticed this?

I just checked my cards no charge as of yet but I will keep an eye on it. I used to be a huge fan of those guys but lately i have heard lots of bad things about them. REI is slowly becoming my on line LBS (and living here they are one of my local LBS).

I just checked my bill and see that the bibs I just bought show up as an item described as "Performance catalogue #######" Have you bought anything from them lately? I don't think they are charging for a catalogue.

No I haven't bought anything. I bought some jerseys about 2 months ago. What prompted me to check my card (other than paying bills) was a card from them that one of the jerseys I ordered was not available. I ordered 4 and only 3 were charged for and came with a note that the other was temporarily out of stock.

I don't think there is anything that I could order and have shipped for $5.00.

I guess it could be "exactly" 5.00 if I ordered one or two Clif bars only.

Ok......got a reply and here is the story. The order I placed a few months ago was for 4 jerseys. The total was just over $100 ($108.xx). I used an online coupon I found for $20 off a $100 purchase, which brought my total to $88.xx.

They couldn't fill one of the jerseys at the time as it was "temporarily out of stock", so they only charged me for 3 of the jerseys ($63.xx). They still had, however applied the $20 coupon.

I just got a card the other day telling me that the 4rth jersey I ordered wouldn't come in so forget about it.

It turns out the $5 was putting "some" of that coupon back (I guess 1/4 since 1/4 of the shirts didn't make it in) on me as a charge since I didn't in the end have over a $100 order.

I still think its pretty rude.....recharging me for a coupon because they had items on their website that was not in stock. I don't think I'll likely do business with them again.

Thats cheesy and I think you should push the issue. Call (not email) Performance and talk with a supervisor. Remind them the coupon was for 20% off your order not buy 4 jerseys and get 20% off.

They have become to big for their britches

Very cheesy indeed. I'd raise a hissy fit.

Typical shiznit from Performance, especially when it was their out-of-stock condition that created the problem. If you call and complain, they usually will do something for you, but they do make you work for it. I am finding more and more reasons to shop elsewhere. They are such tools. It gets old after a while.

Definitely won't be shopping there, although I will have to say that almost all places are *******s when it comes to returns or out of stock items. I've gone through similar things with Nashbar.

I find that their bike gear prices are competitive to my LBS. They also have great sales.

Exactly why I'm not going to bother pursuing it. My time is worth more to me than all the time that will be spent trying to get back $5. I may send them a letter explaining the situation and telling them I won't be shopping there again, but if I do, it will be just to satisfy MY conscience more than anything.

They should have CALLED you first and explained everything before taking such action(s). IMO what they did is disrespectful to the customer.

So if Performance is lousy and they own Nashbar and Supergo and REI is pricey (except for the sales) - where should we shop? The closest LBS to me is a 2 hr drive in my car. I pretty much have to depend on online resources.

I've used all but REI(I think) and I tend to gravitate towards pricepoint.com now. Not the greatest, but they have a pretty good selection. Never really had problems with Nashbar, but my buddy's had a terrible time getting shipments on time(2 day air and whatnot) when I can order items with basic ground shipping(USPS if I can get it) and get them within 3-4 business days. He only lives across town from me. Haven't ordered anything online for months, tho.
