What is the meaning of your Username?

Now that we're spilling our guts about our custom titles, what about our usernames?

Mine's simple. My e-mail address is jschen@<insert various domain names>

I'm sure many of you have far more interesting reasons for picking your usernames. Let's hear about them.

I see. Like me right now, trying to pass some downtime in the lab. (Sadly, BF isn't quite as amusing on Saturday mornings, when I'm most unmotivated at work.) I guess if jschen is ever taken in another context, i can always do jschenatwork or jscheninlab.

This thread has been done a few times...

To repeat

I own a 1958 volkswagen sedan (type 1 bug) which was my first car I "owned", i.e. held the pink too. It is a little beat right now but it is getting better quickly!

Once upon a time, a long time ago, i managed to liberate large quantities of pizza for free. I guess it still happens every so often these days, but not so much

Mine refers to an easter egg in an old Apple/Mac programing application called ResEdit. A line drawing of a pig appears and starts oinking.

My first name brazilianized, because I was chatting with some Brazilian kids a while back on ICQ. They called me sunninho as a nickname and I liked it -- pronounced sun-neen-yo... not, sun-in-hoe, lol.

The best soccer player in the world is named Ronaldinho and plays for Brazil in the World Cup (also plays for the Spanish League's Barcelona team).

Mine refers to the my favorite non-English language: Koine Greek. It was the Greek spoken during the Hellenistic period (300BC to AD300). It is the Greek of Alexander, the New Testament, Josephus, Platinus and many others. It is best translated as "common", which also reflects my desire, regardless of whatever role or position I attain to in my life, that I be only regarded as but a common man trying to do my part, no less important and no more important than anyone else. 2002 is the year I made that my standard online id.

ICQ was one of the first internet chat programs (like MSN Messnger and Yahoo Messenger) and it's still really popular, especially overseas. I still chat with people in Russia, the Middle East, Asia and South America from time to time.

I have sported a crew cut since way before it was fashionable. A coworker had names picked out for everybody. Mine stuck. ... At least it is better than "Twinkie", one of his gems, (god bless him)

No explanation needed here. I was a huge Seattle Mariner fan when I lived in Washington and carried it to Indiana. Iím sure Iím the only guy in this state that likes the Mariners but I feel that you should always stick with your baseball team. I track their every movement on the internet and have direct TV so I can get MLB extra innings. Guess Iím a bit obsessed. I wish someone would make a MLB bike jersey!

I replied in the far older thread, but anyway... My old Camaro was purple, so my wife took to calling it "The Eggplant". So I started using "Eggplant Jeff" on the Camaro message boards I was on... and just kept using it. The car is now a pile of scrap metal that I dropped in the recycle bin at the dump , but I still have the name.

Rocco is the name of our pet Parakeet. He's pretty cool, but continues to insist on flying instead of riding a bike. I liked his name, so I used it and added 'bike' to it to complete my handle.

my favorite book (not saying i understand it--that's part of why i love it so much) is james joyce--finnegans wake. in that book, there's a character of sorts who's referred to under different permutations of the letters "HCE". this "HCE" is the night-time persona of a sleeping man, and as the dream goes on, while HCE is primarily "Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker", HCE also changes and transforms to different plays on that name, not to mention those letters and other arrangements of HCE (ech, hec, etc). on another board, i change my name periodically to another one of joyce's names for HCE. at the time i made this one, not realizing i couldn't change it every few weeks (nor would i want to), my name there was "HumanCongerEel", one of joyce's versions of HCE.

so there it is. just a little james joyce tribute, if you want the short version (it's hard to actually talk about FW without having to go a little in-depth on something).

Ah... that explains why someone who doesn't like eggplant would have such a nickname.
