xmas present for the girlfriend

This has me boggled. I've pretty much abandoned christmas for the last few years except for a couple stupid gifts. She said no presents and I said I was getting her something so she said she will too. Now I realise I should have just shut the hell up and be happy with my wonderful non-materialistic better half.

So I need some suggestions because I'm stumped. My best idea is either a nice pair of gloves (lame!) or buy her some time at a spa (better). But I need more ideas. Guys: what does your lady like? Gals: what do you like getting?

You've known her for 3 years. Surely, you can think of something more thoughtful. The spa idea is nice if she gets stressed out at all. What are some of her interests?

I've known/dated her for 3 months, should have mentioned that in my OP. She likes cooking, but has everything she needs/wants as far as that goes. Though a garlic roaster would be kinda nice since we both have a fondness for it. She's kinda into macrame. She's a nurse, works 12 hour shifts, so that's what gave me the idea for the spa. She's not into perfume. I got her a silk scarf for her birthday and she seemed to enjoy it.

Spa + Cook Dinner For Her.

During the cooking, (if she does really like to cook) ask if she can give you a hand with it in a way that suggests you know she's skilled.

Women love to think they are better than you (regardless of it they are or are not)

yea, the spa deal would be nice. maybe you could do a package that would include a day for the two of you to together. there is a place around here that offers couple's massage, a day at the pool/sauna and then you can add what ever (pedicure, facial...etc). it is a nice day that you could spend together.

If she isn't on a diet or anything, chocolates are good. Maybe not for the whole gift, but as a part. Find a chocolate shop, not whitmans from the grocery store. Usually the ones from a chocolate shop are a lot better and they don't have to be super expensive (or if they are, make sure the box is really fancy and only get a few).

Don't berate yourself. (I'll probably catch some flak from this, but...) If a woman tells you "You don't have to get me a gift" she's saying "I don't want to be disappointed when you either forget to get me something or get me something crappy." She wants a gift anyway.

If you want to go with the whole pampered thing, get her some chocolates, some fuzzy socks (My wife loves 'em and so does everyone she gives 'em to.) Slipper socks they're sometimes called, the softer and fluffier the better. Maybe a pillow (like one of those neck pillows or some other specialized kinda pillow). Those should all be fairly inexpensive, easy to throw on top of the spa thing (because a gift card to a spa is nice and pricey but doesn't make for a big package to open on Christmas).

If she likes cooking, get her a real set of knives and keep them out of the dishwasher.

Forschner is good. It's not overpriced and it's used in cooking schools.

Make her breakfast in the morning, brush her hair for her while she is getting ready for the day. Take her to a special place such as a park (wrap her in a warm snuggly blanket) lead her to a bench and read her a poem that describes how much she means to you and how your life is now complete. Take her for some hot chocolate, go home and relax.

edit: Before I get slammed for being too mushy, that is just something that I would like. It doesn't have to be something expensive. Just time and expression from the heart. That suits me just fine. Maybe she would appreciate it too?

Sis.....girls "say" they like stuff like that but its never true in real life. I tried something very similar to that once and just got told by g/f at time that I was acting like a *****exual. Granted she was an evil biatch that I dumped after a bit.....but the point is that it certainly wasn't appreciated when I tried it.

I guess I'm different. Never had much to begin with (material wise), so I don't expect much at all. If I need something, I buy it myself and earn the money myself. To me, I just want to know that I'm special to someone. Their time is important to me. They could be spending it doing something else but if they chose to go through any kind of trouble for me, they are giving themselves. And you can't ask for anything more.

No GF to shop for, but my sister made my day when she said she wanted a pushbroom for Christmas. Finally a gift I feel genuinely good about giving.

I say send her on a scavenger hunt! Draw up a treasure-map on some old wrinkled parchment. Burn the edges for additional authenticity. Send her to... the grocery store *! Have her find the manager or someone who will give her a shopping-list. Have a note that says something cocky like, "Since you're such a good cook, you can make us Christmas dinner!". Have her pick out ingredients for a wicked dish you know she really enjoys. Add in a couple of random things to throw her off, like pickled pig's feet or somethin' . Then at the check-out counter, have them give her a coupon, except it's a pass to the spa... heh, heh...

Then while she's getting rubbed, squeezed and rolled, sneak into her car and steal the groceries! Rush home and make the meal, don't forget appetizers, appropriate wines for each course and dessert!

Then you can get really kinky and set up a S&M dungeon with macramé harnesses and stuff to tie her up!

Siu, the only thing I would say to that is that if he has only started dating her then this would be alittle much. Once you've been down the road a bit, and your thinking things would work out longer term, then this might be something to try. But I've always found that type of gift is better given for Feb14th or just randomly. I never give my wife flowers when she expects them, give them to her when she doens't expect it. Bigger impact that way. As for the gift in this thread, if she wears jewlery, a nice set of ear rings can be good.

Oops! I must have been reading too fast. I went back over and saw that it was SUNNINHO that said 3 years! Well, since it's been only 3 MONTHS, I take that back. Waaay too mushy for 3 months. My bad!

For three months, I would suggest the spa thing too. I like that idea. But no poems......geez
