New this time

What are you planning to do new or different this year to make the Holiday even better than last?

I plan to try to get more sleep, let work drain from my thoughts and ENJOY Christmas without stress.

Get different presents!

I think sleep would be a good idea, but considering the fact I am sitting here typing to you at 12:17 am probably just killed that whole idea I dunno, maybe eat more?

No no no, I'm not talking about getting wired or anything. I mean, what are you doing to make your Holiday better than last year? Not fight with your drunk uncle? Be more patient with the bratty selfish kids? Not feed the dog leftovers so he doesn't get sick?
Be more observant about who's birthday it REALLY is? C'mon, put on your thinking caps....

Last christmas I played Far Cry and Half-Life 2 on my new video card all day. The one before that, I think I played Halo instead. Bit of a tradition you see.

This year, I think I'll play Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. Or maybe ride a bit. Unless we go to phoenix to visit my sister on friday, in which case christmas day would be spent driving home.

Not putting up a tree ......Oh wait, I always do that.
Not listening to Christmas music ......Oh wait, I always do that.
Giving dirty looks to Salvation Army bell ringers ......Oh wait, I always do that.
Avoiding the malls and other stores as much as possible ......Oh wait, I always do that.

I guess the only thing NEW that I will do is that I'm stronly considering getting in a nice bike ride on Christmas morning since my family isn't meeting until 5pm.

You should ask for some kind of compensation or something. That is way too long to wait for a fork. I'm surprised you're not on the phone asking them to expedite this. Why don't you call and ask for a superviser and find out where it is. There must be a tracking number on it. Explain that the problem wasn't being taken care of in a timely manner and you'd like to know what he is going to do about it.

I'm liking the fact that Christmas will be pretty minimal this year. Probably just getting together with my brother and sister and playing some board games. Probably not much for presents. The last couple of years, it's kind of felt like it needed to be more, more, more! Which I think might have been partly the influence of my (soon to be ex) sister in law and her family. She's in Japan, as is her sister for this holiday.

I guess that makes this the first adult Christmas for my family here where there aren't influences from another family.... That seems like something different.

Oh and Merton - did you order straight from Surly? What's the hold up? I have no idea what you were doing, but the guys that work there that I've met seem pretty stand-up. If a little drunk and disorderly...

Let's see.

For Christmas: stay mellow all day.
For the New Year: Finish up some of these lingering bike projects that I never seem to get 100% complete, ride (for real or on trainer) at least 4 times each week, ride at least 3,000 miles, ride at least 2 centuries, lose 5-10 pounds, teach my wife how to ride.

I'll be trying to ease my daughter through her first "there's no Santa?" Christmas. So in that respect, her 8th Christmas likely won't be better than the previous 7. Getting old sucks.

I saw the Dali Lama on TV the other day, encouraging people to be "good-hearted and to do something for someone else." I'll try that.

Sorry to hear about your fork, merton. I've had my eye on a Pacer frame for a bit, but the heartburn might not be worth it.

Cheers.

Different? Christmas is like groundhog day. (the movie) Same drill over and over again. Watch the kids open waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many presents. Eat. Watch the kids open waaaaaaaaaaaaay to many presents again. Sleep. Watch the kids open waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to many presents. Then eat again. Followed by some more sleep.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

(actually the kids are not the only ones to get way to many presents. pretty much everybody gets too much. Christmas seems to be the season of too much. Too much presents, food and Uncle Larry.)

Last year, I went on a crazy road trip from LA to El Paso (in one day/night), then my buddy and I drove non-stop to Monterey Mexico where we finally got some sleep. We then drove non-stop all the way to Cancun. 3 days driving, switching off driving/sleeping and we only got a hotel one night.

After we got there, it was beautiful, but I won't drive like that again. Driving while drowsy in a foreign land sucks.

This year, it's all about doing as little as possible, except for maybe movies and eating out.

This christmas will be a happier time. I've helped wrap all the gifts and pick out presents. We have the same routine of going over to my grandma's house and unwrapping gifts. This is my last christmas until I turn 18. So I'll take it in alot. Its also supposed to snow.

This christmas will be the 2nd year of not having a grandfather around. He passed away 2-3 weeks last christmas of unnatural causes. That was depressing. So we'll have a more cheery time this time around. All the other cousins will be a year older too so that will be fun.

Anything else different I don't know.
