Just though it would be fun to post a few pics of what happened to one cager at the Madison bike swap.

This is a Ford F250.

It's a Ford, what did you expect? There was probably a strong breeze that was too much for the truck to handle, and it fell apart.

According to the license plate, it says that it's a truck. I would have never known!

looks like the lower ball joint broke. not common, but not unusual either. wheel bearing or spindle failure would have been a bit more catastrophic, and the wheel would have probably come off.

looks like it may have broken the tie rod as well.

other possibility would be a failure of the lca - but that wouldn't look any different and is much less likely.

Judging from the A frame laying on the ground under the fender, its clear that the ball joint let go. It looks like this truck was taken off road and some damage occurred to the A frame or directly to the ball joint. If your not familiar with this problem, it occurrs with no warning to the driver. Thank God this occurred in a parking lot and not while the driver was passing a cyclist.

I wound up behond a Land Cruiser, that had some of the letters on the back missing so it spelled out "Land User". Talk about honest statements....
