I have some problems with networking my computers any help?

All of the computers are running xp home and three of them share a router to the cable modem and my laptop is wireless.
Now they all see each other and I can use each one to backup the other. But I wanted to synchronize some folders so the laptop had the same database as my main computer. I wanted the laptop at work and use it as an offsite backup too.
So I bought a cheap copy of pc anywhere to connect them. Be even at home I canít get it to find any other computer on the network.
Say my main computerís ip is192.168.101.1 and the laptop is 192.168.101.100 but you put it in and nothing is found.
Ok I had not really done anything with the synchronize folders thatís under tools in any folder. According to help you just click on a folder click on tools and click synchronize and you see the folder. But all I see is sync the offline homepage.
I must be missing something as no where in those menuís is there anything listing where to sync too. So how do I get two folders one on my main computer and one on my laptop all sharing the same router to sync a folder?
Also I had the wireless setup with a password and my pocket pc asked do I want to put in a password and it was no big deal to get the wireless working. But on my laptop I canít find anywhere to enter a password. So right now it is a open system.
