I OCP-fied my web page

My web page has a black background with light grey text, and on a web development forum I frequent, someone started a thread about repeating background images. So I suddenly got this horrifying idea to make a carbon weave pattern for the background of my website.

I can't tell if it's cool or irritating though, and/or if the weave is too tight or not. I might get annoyed with it in a few weeks, but for now the jury's out.

I was probably editing the CSS when you peeked. I tried resizing the gif to make the weave larger, but it hosed the way the pattern was and ended up looking more like a table cloth. Guess I'm stuck with the miniweave unless I re-do the gif.

btw, it's not the background behind the text, it's the background around the edges of the page.

I see the CF weave on my IE. It is quite small, and would be hard to know what it was unless you 'knew' it was supposed to be CF. Then again, perhaps it being a cycling board most people will know.

On Firefox, I see it, but instead of a weave, it looks like dots. I had to look hard too to see it.

You guys are probably right - I need to redo it and make it bigger. Looking at it on a 19" flat panel at 1280x it still looks small, so it's probably too small. I'll redo it sometime today.

Ok, I doubled the size of the background image. Any less than double and it screwed up the "weave" lol.

If I go larger, it gets really ugly. I don't want it to jump out at people. I want it to be subdued.

Thanks. I'll leave it for a while, but it's starting to get that "wicker basket" look to it. We'll see how I like staring at it over time.

I like the site, but personally for me, there isn't enough contrast between the text bg and the text for easy reading. I liked the cf weave even thought it was only around the edge.

Some people have trouble with that, which is why I provided a way for the viewer to change color schemes. The default is the white-on-black because that's hands-down the most readable for me. I spend most of my Internet time in a dimly-lit room or office, and too much contrast is a recipie for eye strain.

Nice site! I could tell you were going for the CF look The weave also reminds me of backpacking or mountain climbing material/webbing they use for harnesses.

I should CSSify my bike webpages and/or stick them under Movable Type control. I originally created this webpage by hand back when I was having my bike built. I was working with my LBS and instead of trading phonecalls and/or visiting the shop to get things right, I just threw the selections up on a webpage and pointed them to it. Later on after the bike was built, I added pictures and stuck in the CF background. I like your background. It seems more "consistent" than mine.

Hey, your background looks like the walls inside the elevators where I work. They're metal and have that same texture - great for scratching your back on.

I have a lot of fun with CSS. My own web page is really the only fun I have though, because at work it's gov't-style boringness. They don't allow much creativity.

I like it. It adds character and action, but it's not overwhelming. I might have to work that idea into my website, although not with the current color scheme (which I'm slowly starting to feel less clever about).

Mine is coded completely by hand, front and back end, so I give props to those break free from the monotony of prepackaged blogs and learn how to make it their own.
