Seeing how far $1500 dollars USD will go in the Road Bike market.

Any suggestions?

Anything less than Ultegra/105, and I'm not biting.

You should be able to find some good stuff in that range. For starters:

Jamis Quest (631 steel)
Jamis Ventura Elite (aluminum)
Specialized Allez Comp
Trek 2.1/2.3
Felt F75

I already did that.

Trek can suck it. 4/6 of the bike shops here stock them, and as a result, Monroe County has become saturated with them.

There's plenty of nice bikes out there, but I'm with 3MTA3. If getting a new $1500 bike, look at the CAAD9. Unless there's some reason you really don't like it, seriously consider getting it. By the way, don't overvalue the componentry. I'd take a great frame with Tiagra parts over a decent frame with DuraAce parts anyday. That's my take on things, anyway.
