Gotta GTFOutta nyc...

A friend of mine from college just bought a 2 bedroom condo for 100k in MA.
I can't find a decent ROOM for 100k around here... Studios are going for like 250k.

Maybe phantomcow can build us a time machine so we can buy up all the lofts in NYC circa 1927.

Hell, I'd settle for circa 1997. Things were a LOT less crazy even ten years ago... a lot of places are going for 1000% of what they were back then.

You should see what 100-130k can buy you in North Dallas. I was looking at 1700+ sqft 3-bedroom homes in that price range.

Yeah, but then we'd have to live in North Dallas.

Probably not nearly as bad in NJ as it is in NYC, but my jaw drops when I see the prices for nice homes out in the midwest. But I soon realize, yeah, I'd have to live in the midwest.

i can't wait to get the heck out of new york. the only reason i live here is because the job market is really vast. if i could work from home full time, you bet i'd buy a house somewhere in the sticks and develop weird anti-social behavor. i'd love to be one of those people who sit on their stoop and threaten to shoot anyone that walks on the property.

Ha ha suckers! I'm moving to SF and even convinced my job to transfer me! No more NYC for me! muhahahahaha!

oh, wait, SF is just as expensive as NYC, and i own a car so that's another expense... well, at least my apartment there is literally 4x the size of the one i'm in now, for not too much more, and i have a back yard now... whee!

I never could figure out why someone would want to live in NYC to begin with. 10 million unhappy people living in such close proximity is not a recipe for an enjoyable life.

I didn't say everyone there is unhappy, just 10 million of y'uns. Well, if you have to pay $250,000 for a dumpy condo, it kinda goes without saying. I guess if you live there long enough you can get hardened to the absurdity of it all, and tune peripheral unpleasantness out. But that just means you're in denial if you think you're really happy.

Consider this to be your invitation to skip the rat-race and join the real world.

No thanks. I'd rather stay here and be part of the world than insulate myself from it.

When you're young, there's a lot to hold your attention. Once you have children though, you'll begin to appreciate how much living in a big city really sucks.
