Box o' kittens

Hi, about a month ago i posted a thread about finding a stray cat in our backyard. After finding her and feeding her some stuff she has been staying around the back porch for some food now, cause we feed her cat food everyday now. Well shes sort of old, gray, and has a really sweet disposition for being a stray cat. Well on last Sunday or Monday she dissappeared and my family had not seen her for a couple of days. Well on friday, my mom takes me to school i n the morning, comes home, goes inside to bring stuff in, and when she opens the door to the garage, she sees the gray stray holding a black kitten in her mouth. The mom looked really desperate for help. So my mom goes inside for some blankets and when she comes out to the garage, theyre gone. But then she hears noises in this large cardboard box 3,5 feet up on a wooden table, and sure enough they were in there along with another kitten! Its sort of sad though because I think she had more, but they might have died since she sometimes goes back to the other peoples houses backyard, 2 doors down, where she might have had them, to check on the maybe dead others...Well i just hope those kittens survive. Its pretty warm out during the day and the garage gets really hot. The mom cat now barely drinks water or milk anymore, but they all seem healthy. What should I do? Id like to take into a vet, but i dont know if it would traumatize the mom=/. This is interesting because my mom had a grey cat like this for 18 years before it had to be put down for kidney failure in 88..Anybody have inputs I should know about? Thanks Here are some pictures I took today. The kittens are maybe 5 days old. Ones black and ones a brown tabby.

oh my god, that's the cutest thing I think I've ever seen. Those kittens are so adorable. What you should do right now is CALL a vet and ask for advice on how to take care of these kitties. It's pretty common for a kitten or two to die when a mom has a litter (sad, I know). The other thing to be aware of is that if you come close to the kittens, the mom might freak out and hiss or scratch at you. It's usually best to let her do her job.
Yee! SOOOOO CUTE!

I KNEW someone would say something about that lol. Yes I pulled out my M1thompson and had some fun with the box
Since its so0 hot in there, my mom had this huge fan and the holes are vent ducts for it wont get too hot. The cat seems to like it, not so much the noise.

Sweet! Get the kittens used to being around people or they'll be too wild to approach after not too long.

As a few people have sort of implied, the mother cat knows what she is doing. Let her take care of the kittens for a while. You don't want to handle them if possible right now. Most animals tell which babies are their own by scent. If you get too much human scent on them, it is possible the mother will abandon them. I know this happens with cows and calves alot anyway. I would call a vet and just ask what to do. My guess is he/she will say just leave her some cat food and water.
