Karldar: Flatulence and Spirituality

In reference to your posts on Stacey's Ultrasound thread: your intestinal gas may, in fact, be a sign of your spirituality. In Hebrew the word "ruach" means both "spirit" and "wind." In Greek, the word "pnuema" (the root of the English word "pneumatic") carries the same dual meaning. Breaking wind may, then, be a giving off of excess spirit.

Maybe not.

But consider: Among the fragments of Pythagoras's writings there is an odd statement that his followers should refrain from eating beans because they contain the spirits of departed human beings. Why would Pythagoras, an otherwise intelligent human being, think such a thing? Perhaps because beans make you fart.

It could be that you are more spiritual than you think.

So, gassiness is next to godliness? Depending on my diet, I could be a lesser deity, at least.

So farts = spirits. Spirits = dead people. Dead people = decomposing bodies. Decomposing bodies = STINK.

All this time I thought it was bacteria. Huh. The more you know...
