BYU rugby. AWESOMENESS

My friend went to go see the byu- penn state rugby game on friday. It was totally awesome, we saw byu own penn state. 52-3 was the score.

The below pics are of the game yesterday, saturday of byu vs cal. I don't know if anyone knows about rugby but byu has a great team, but also cal has a really good team. Anyways cal won 29-26 and it was heartbreaking. In the last about 20 seconds byu was literally within 10 feet of scoring which would have won the game for them. Up until this game byu hadn't lost a single game. The biggest ownage of the season byu laid down was against colorado state 81-0. Anways, it was a great game and now rugby is offically my favorite sport. My friend whose a football crazy kind of person even admitted he thought rugby was more entertaining than football. Its non stop action, and Its totally awesome!

Byu has some amazing players, It was awesome to see one of their best players who I believe is from fiji literally close line cal players while he had the rugby ball in his hand. He would just stick his hand in their face and they would go down. It was sweet.

Three of the players that are of pacific islander descent( I don't want to go and say they are all tongan or samoan even though most of them are) and one of the biggest white dudes from the byu team.

The dude on the far right with the head gear on, is the one Im talking about who totally kicks butt.

What I like about rugby is that the players do not wear as much protection (i.e helmets, padding etc.) as you find in the NFL. This keeps the game more "real", for the lack of a better term. A real man's game in the truest sense of the word.

There are just a few of us that know a wee bit about Rugby. Staying that close to Cal is doing very well. Not that any team is unbeatable.

I've been playing for 30+ years. Played with and against players from more countries than I can count. I still occasionally hear echos from my trip to the holy land (New Zealand) about 25 years ago. At that time no one thought Americans knew the game. Took a while to get in a run with the team, but did well enough to end up with Man of the Match.

who have you played with? My uncle played rugby at a very high level in Ireland.

NoF3ar? Have you watched any World Cup games or Six Nation's games? They are usually pretty good. The best Rugby ive watched though has been some of the British+Irish Lions tour matches (not the last tour, they got WHALLOPED!!) Maybe you can clarify this keith, but was it South Africa they toured before this last one in New Zealand?

enjoy it, its a great sport to watch. I really find American rugby boring and slow.

I think Fox Sports World shows a lot of rugby if you are able to get that station.

Don't compile all rugby in america into one pile. You probably haven't seen enough american rugby to make such a statement.

Fox sports world no longer carrier Rugby. It was independently produced and was dropped (the fools).

The guys who produced it now have an internet setup:

http://www.mediazone.com/channel/rug...2006/index.jsp

I know them well. Played with the head guy, Pat, last weekend in Catalina. Brownie, the columnist is capped for Latvia.

The Previous Lions tour was to Australia in 2001. Before that South Africa in 1997.

I have not played In Ireland. Played in England and Wales. Also New Zealand and Australia. Played against a touring side from Russia.

I've played with several players who have been capped for the U.S. The match against the Russian side, which I played in was also the last Match Dave Hodges (eventual Eagle captain for many years) played for the Oxy Olde Boys. Going way back Dennis Jablonski (votes to some 'All World' team, as far as I know only American to get that kind of honor) and Auerbach, both members of the first Eagle team. I'm pretty sure that I've been on the pitch at the same time as Willie Jefferson, who was still playing wing in the French first division when he was 35. Right now two of the guys on our team have brothers playing for Kenya and South Africa respectively.

But by the end of the game I'm usually the most important guy out there. (I've got the best stocked ice chest.)

Don't judge a game based on the score. Maybe just colorado and penn state suck at rugby. It was entertaining to me. Thats all that matters.

Shadiyah- those that have actually received their endowments probably trake the garments off when they put on the uniform.

listen, im not trying to start an arguement here, im just saying that European/Southen Hemisphere rugby is far better than American Rugby, i cant think of anyone that would disagree with this.

If you liked what you saw on the weekend, try watch some international matches, they are great.

Glad you found the game entertaining!

im not sure if there would be any full matches to watch online, but im sure there are LOTS of highlights you could find on google video's.

You could also get a subscription to Setanta sports online to watch live matches, but from what my friend told me, its not cheap.

I'm hoping college club rugby grows underground in the US the way college club lacrosse has.

The Lions last tour prior to NZ last year was Australia in 2001.

See if you can find Super 14 matches on any sports channels. The competition is only a couple of weeks away from the finals. It features regional teams from New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Following that will be 6 internationals between the three countries.

I just assume that a good majority of the students there wear them. I suppose they make acceptions for themselves when it comes to stuff like that.
