Siu asked my opinion about something, but I think she needs some other opinions too.

She is trying to decide between buying a cute little 250-300 dollar pet tortoise like this one,

or some bike parts, namely new bars, a pink headset and pink hubs.

The tortoise reminds her of an old army helmet like this one-

She thinks the tortoise is incredibly cute, but they aren't so much fun to play with as conventional pets.

Which do you think she should get?

What is the significance of an old army helmet?

I was wondering if the helmet had a special meaning, and therefore the tortoise would have a special meaning, or is it just cute because it looks like a helmet.

When I first saw him, he was so cute! He's not flat like the usual tortoise, he's higher! And with the crazy designs that are on the shell, I thought of a 60's army helmet.

I was thinking of naming him sixty.

Two feet across. Not too big. For a tortoise.

You do realize that a tortoise is a lifetime pet as they live a hundred years or more.

This is tiki,
it's about a year old on that pic, she's 5 years old now. They are cute, mine is very friendly. The only thing is it gets costly with heating lamps and you have to keep making new homes. It grows pretty fast, it's now a foot and a half in diameter and will get to be about 3 foot around. her new home is made out of an old coffee table with fiber glass for walls and I have to make a new one soon, she's allready outgrowing it!

I'd say tortoise since I love reptiles! Do a lot of research to find out what you're getting into - I had an iguana for years and while I wouldn't trade the experience I was able to start off on the right foot!

Make sure you have a vet in place that is familiar with them in place before you take the leap. Nothing worst than having a situation and then trying to find a vet in a hurry.

Bike parts come and bike parts go, but how often do you find a tortoise name 60?

However, I still like my pet rock.

Get the hubs and the headset. Then spend $10 on an army helmet at a surplus place. Put the helmet in a box surrounded by some hay or something. Give it a name. You'll never notice the difference.
