computer help

Hey guys,

all of you seem to know heaps about computer stuff so maybe you could help me with something?

I've seen those moving pictures people put on their signatures or avatars and most of them are ready made ones. Would any of you know how I can go about making my own?

Also would you know if it'll work on myspace?

thanks!

You can animate something in Flash then export it as an animated gif. That's probably the most popular.

Yes, they are animated gif files.

To create one you different pictures (of same dimensions). Each picture is one "frame" of the animated gif file. Then you can define the order of each file, how long each frame stays up for, etc....

The easiest software to use is from a website.

More specifically (in case you had trouble finding it since it't not on front page anymore), the tool to create the images is at: http://www.gifworks.com/image_editor.html

And you can't use animated avatars any more. Don't work.

My avatar is animated (subtly, it blinks its eyes every 24 seconds), and still seems to work.

There's always GIMP! http://www.gimp.org/ and DL it. It's in essence an open source free photoshop clone. A few command differences but you can stack layers to create animated .gifs. Here are a couple of crude ones I did.

Hey,

thanks for the links. I've got a couple of video clips i wanna turn into animated pictures, do these sites do the trick? cuz they seem to need only gif files or picture files something like that anyways.

What you do is play the video and freeze-frame it on one frame at a time. Do a screen-capture and use that captured image to paste into the GIF-animation software. I like to use Easy GIF Animator because it lets you paste directly from the clipboard. No need to capture and save to a file first, and then open the file in the GIF program. Using the clipboard saves a tonne of time.

I prefer www.gifworks.com overall for interface. I found it easiest to use.

But there is something to be said about just copy/pasting images into a frame. When I played with making them using PC applications, EasyGif Animator was the tool I liked best too.
