Awesome. I think Alpine has to be one of the top 10 best breweries in the country. Best in San Diego, IMO, and that's saying a lot.

^alpine and societe are my two faves here in san diego with a few others like alesmith, eppig, modern times and thorn street close behind. love love the mikkeller stuff and their tasting room up in miramar (opening a new tasting room dtown sd in spring-trouble!) but they are a global concern vs local.

I love modern times too. Also check out Hess and Council, the founders are friends of mine, they make some great beers (and plenty of award-winners).

Allegedly the best and most expensive Guatemalan rum.
But it just tastes like battery acid to me.

i like hess but don't love hess. i find the beers to have a generally silky quality in terms of body (a filtration step?) which i find sexy in wines but disturbing with beers. council brewing (according to my notes)...i've only had 3 of their beers but i've loved them all. the "questionable advice" ipa, "weekend brunch" ipa and "hazeas corpus" ipa have all been top-notch. time for your friend to expand. they've got some serious bleep. i will hafta make a serious beer ride up to council (vs societe) in clairemont mesa to first hand attack it for the second time.

I am sitting here by half of my Ballast Point Victory at Sea from last night, got sleepy after getting home from IKEA and just went to bed. Woke up to Kroger's Private Collection Guatemalan Coffee and a bubba mug of H2O.

If I could marry a beer, it'd be this one. Hey, people marry weird things. Woman plans to marry Tetris after a relationship with a calculator called Pierre

had a nice glass of 1997 araujo eisele vineyard cabernet sauvignon. last tasted in 2002 or so. acidity is still there. fruit and tannins well-integrated now. brickish nose. chocolate-covered cherry finish. light bodied. no speedbumps. a far cry from the youthful rambunctiousness of its early years.

then onto beer. an eppig (san diego co concern) "10:45 to denver" ipa on tap.
