Airline employees report UFO sighting at O'Hare

The Federal Aviation Administration has dismissed the reported Nov. 7 sighting by United Airlines employees as a likely weather phenomenon.

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said there is no record of the UFO report and company officials don't recall discussing any such incident.

That doesn't sit well with the employees, who are upset that neither United nor the FAA investigated the incident.

A group of workers, including pilots, told the Chicago Tribune on condition of anonymity in remarks published Monday that they saw a dark gray, flying saucer-like object hover motionless in the sky above the United terminal around 4:30 p.m. that day.

After several minutes, the object -- described variously at 6 feet to 24 feet in diameter -- bolted noiselessly upward through thick clouds so powerfully that it left an eerie hole in the clouds.

The FAA acknowledged that a United supervisor called its air-traffic control tower at O'Hare, asking if controllers had spotted a spinning disc-shaped object. FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory said no controllers saw it and a preliminary check of radar found nothing out of the ordinary.

"Our theory on this is that it was a weather phenomenon," she said. "That night was a perfect atmospheric condition in terms of low (cloud) ceiling and a lot of airport lights. When the lights shine up into the clouds, sometimes you can see funny things."

Funny is just how some controllers in the tower view the incident.

"To fly 7 million light years to O'Hare and then have to turn around and go home because your gate was occupied is simply unacceptable," said O'Hare controller and union official Craig Burzych.
What do you think?

I think Art Bell flew in from the Philippines in his saucer and got off course. He was trying to visit his bud Whit Strieber down in TX and the prevailing winds affected his navs!

I think it probably was a UFO. They in all likelyhood do exist. For us to think that we are the most highly evolved life in the universe is just freakin' silly.

Sorry, that was me, I mounted wings on my bike as a joke.....well, I screwed up and ate some taco bell earlier in the day....I took off and had a little joyride.

The fancy lights was just my niterider on my handlebars....and I apologise to that poor person that I accidentally dropped a powerbar on. It just slipped out of my fingers

I agree, although I equally believe it may be a vehicle used for secretive purposes by a technologically advanced country such as China or the US.

If airline pilots really did see something, that gives me pause. As a whole, they're a pretty levelheaded, rational bunch.

There was once an article in Playboy several years ago (yes, I read an article in Playboy) by Carl Sagin, I believe. It was about intelligent life in our galaxy. It was essentially a statistical analysis starting with the number of stars in the galaxy. He then theorized the number that likely had planets, then planets that COULD support life, then how many likely have life, etc, etc. The final number was the number of planets in the galaxy he believed to have higher forms of intelligent life. That number was 50.

He did NOT classify the human race as a HIGHER form of intelligent life.

It was most definitely a UFO. After all, UFO stands for "unidentified flying object". And that thing was definitely not identified.

A plane cannot create the kind of vortex in a cumulous cloud the way the reported UFO did.

Was something amazing witnessed? Absolutely. Was it aliens? I have no earthly idea.

If so, they were certainly disappointed by our obsession with Britney Spears.

I believe in aliens - I also believe they probably have much better things to do than check out our planet. If they do, it's probably only for laughs.

I don't think it's a case of extraterrestrial life existing or not, at least for me. But that they'd be sloppy/stupid enough to get caught in one of the most closely monitored areas of air-space.

Nobody bothered to ask the controllers if any of them had ordered Chinese - from China.
