Tools.

Never buy cheap tools. Craftsman or better for general tools, and Park or better for bike stuff.

Survey is an idiot! You can save money on almost anything, just don't be stupid about it.

Anything by buying in bulk. Includes garbage bags and TP.

TP, just don't buy the perfumed version. Garbage bags Go with simple cheap ties and plain packaging.

For these 2 the stupid version of 'saving' is

Garbage bags - going thin (E.g. bag thickness)
TP - going single ply.

BZZZZZZZZZZT!

Wrong! Consider the cost of one broken garbage bag containing black ink landing on a $4000 carpet. Also consider the cost of wiping your backside with sandpaper.

More expensive does not always mean better quality. Fancy foo foo ties actually are more prone to failure than basic twist ties.

There is a difference between saving money and sacrificing quality.

Mmmm...

I disagree.

What you don't want are Robusto beans. They're cheap, and they make bitter coffee. Just spring for the stuff made from 100% Arabica, and you're getting good stuff. People overpay for Starbucks crap.

Good filters, pure water and arabica beans in a ceramic cup, good coffee makes

what are you peoplez doing to your poor tools? you need to be forceful, gentle, and consistent. I mean, sure, I'll buy craftsman if I need a socket to hammer over a rusted to hell triple square, but for normal use, the price is not worth it. unless you like spending money, but that's something else entirely.

But don't use a basic twist tie when going for a job interview. Spring for the fancy foo foo tie.

I think I'll add digital cameras. My wife bought a 6 Mega pixel before christmas to replace our ailing 2 Mega pixel. Turns out the older more expensive Canon takes better pics than the new Kodak. The new Kodak was $99 and the old Canon was $250. (Granted prices have come down)

I suspect the CCD in the Kodak is of lesser quality. Shoulda listened to Consumer Reports they are usually right.

+1 for not buying cheap tools. Quality tools are costly, but are a much better value.

While you are right about the beans....this thread was about 'saving money', and I'm still asserting that generally speaking you aren't going to get very good coffee without paying a few bucks for it. Not $3.00 for a 10 gallon plastic container, like Folgers comes in. That stuff is just crap....better to not have coffee than to take that as an example of what coffee should taste like.

I cant save money on tools...I only buy snapon or matco...anything less gets bent, broken or stripped. I know this from 18 years of experience. I only suggest craftsman if you do light duty work because if you get a lifetime warranty on hand tools. but I snap there sockets and wrenches when I use them and I dont have time to go back and forth to sears every week. snapon stuff doesnt break as often. hence the extra cost. calling portis (survey) an idiot is not going to make you many friends here. give your input if you have any...but I suggest you keep it constructive. In my experience one major rule applies nomatter who, what or where you are...."you get what you pay for" period!
