Help exercise my camera

Got a new digital camera. It's gorgeous, with lots of little techy fiddly bits. (But it's not an SLR, because I'm allergic to changing lenses.)

Unfortunately, it's sitting here lonely. I need a weekend activity that will let me exercise my camera. Difficulty: I'm a wuss and won't be riding the bike until at least March.

(Hmm...if I got a new car, I could take pictures of me with it...no, no...)

Take up contract killing and use your camera to take pics of your victims artfully posed. Then send the pics to the police so they can try to figure out who you are and probably make a big mess of it.

This thread is worthless without pics!...for real, this time!

Ummmm, just go outside and try to take pictures of animals and trees and stuff. It's always easy to get good pictures when you're in nature.

Take pics of your wife when she's not looking. And naked. Then get creative in Photoshop and show her the results. Record the hilarity that ensues.

That's cuz you posted pics of your ass to demonstrate the improper uses of a camera. Which you should post again in the roadie forum cuz they're all in the closet.

Start a thread where you take a picture and someone else has to try and recreate it. Improvised still works, city street scenes, daily slice of life stuff. When the original poster sees an image that he thinks matches, he declares that poster a winner and they take a pic and post it. All pics posted must be taken by the poster.

Set up a still life of some sort, and try it with every possible setting on your camera. You'll get to know the camera better, and probably waste time setting up the scene, too...

No wife. Might have something to do with my not being photogenic. But I refuse to get the haircut.

I would've done the Scottish eggs this morning, but I got up late. Protein shake for me. Besides, the Scottish eggs I know how to make would get me a DUI on the way to work.

Heh - I feel your pain. My Nikon D80 + 2 lenses and battery grip is getting here tomorrow and I just can't wait. My first gig is to photograph my friends Meagan and Jason's show at Antone's Thurs. night. (Antone's is a pretty famous club. Stevie Ray Vaugh, Eric Johnson, Faboulous Thunderbirds and others all played there in their early days.)

Look at other photog's work to get ideas. (my blog has a lot of my photos on it for starters). Photosig.com is another site someone(here on the forums actually) recently recommended for looking at other's work.

Take ultra-close up shots of random household things, then post them in the Mystery Photo thread.

you live in austin but won't be riding till March!?! I mean, granted it's cold here right now, but we'll have some pretty nice days in the next month I'd bet and you're even further south.

All these camera threads is making me want to get mine out again for more than bike photos.

Haw yeah I know Antone's! I'm here in Austin myself! Meagan is Meagan from "The Meagan Tubb Band?" Sounds like a good show...I wonder if I've got to work late tomorrow night.

I guess you've got no clue if you can get tickets at the door? If you see a dude with a red ponytail, wave hi.

I keep forgetting you're here in Austin. Yep - Meagan is playing there tomorrow. I think tickets are like $5. They go on at 9'ish I think. I'm not sure I can bring my camera in. I think its ok - I'll find out though. If not I'll just go stow it in the car.
