Well, I'm not having a very good day

I just need to vent a bit of stress right now.

My Grandfather is in critical condition, his liver and other organs are shutting down and cognitive function has deteriorated so badly he can't really function on anything approaching a normal level. He's 95, so it's not exactly unexpected, but it still sucks!

My Grandfather has been the major influence in my life and was more like a dad than my loser father. He's been slipping for the past few months and been progressively getting worse. It's likely he won't last out the next few days and I'll miss him. All I want, frankly is for him not to suffer and to be able to "go home".

I'm very sorry to hear this Tom. I know it's not too comforting but I really hope he goes "home" without any pain.

Hang in there Tom, 95 is a great age to make it to. I'm sure having you as a grandson has made it even better.

Tom, you're in the prayers for tonight.

Don't know if it helps to think of it this way, but he's just getting a head start on the next leg of his journey. Stay as close to him now as you can. Sounds like he was there for you - now it's your turn to repay a little bit. Hold his hand and help him be at peace.

Sorry Tom.

The only thing I can offer you is that IMO you can find some peace in the fact you get to be there when he passes and see him before he dies. Some of us didn't get to have that when our grandfathers passed. My granddaddy went a few weeks ago. Just be there with him if you can.

Hope you're alright buddy.

Same here man. Everybody goes through the "my parents don't understand" phase as a kid, but my grandpa always knew what I was about.

Losing someone so close is difficult. Living without them can be even harder. I wish you and your family strength and peace with this ending of a man's life. I'm so sorry for your loss, and the grief you feel. ((hugs))

My own (last-surviving) grandmother will be 96 years old in June. Every night, she prays she won't wake up. Every morning, she opens her eyes, and says, "Damn." For her, she's ready. Perhaps your grandfather is, too....

Hi Daddy, hugs to you and prayers as well.

Do me a favor. Look at yourself in the mirror one more time. THERE is his legacy. He did a darn good job didn't he? Carry it on in his honour. I know he is very proud of you. Let his love continue on. And for what you have done for me already, I know you are passing it on to others. ((hugs))

I'm sorry, Tom. My grandpa passed away about 4 years ago. He was (and still is in a way) probably my greatest role model. An all-around great guy, and it sounds like your grandfather is as well. I'll be praying for you, him, and your family.
