Advice needed: So I've got a suit...

My cousin is getting married in august, and as such I needs to look snazzy. I bought a dark green/near black suit. I'm left wondering what color shirt I should go with. I bought a peach colored shirt that I was thinking I could match with it, but now I'm thinkin its making me look like a pumpkin... I'm leaning towards light yellow now.

opinions?

Lavendar. I didn't believe it at first but there's one shirt that the girls go crazy over when I wear it.

Post a pick of the suit and I'll have my nephew take a look. He does that kind of thing for a living.

What's your complexion contrast like? If you're low in contrast - ie: pale skin, light hair - you'll need to find something that doesn't overly contrast with the dark suit (ie: no white shirts). If however you're moderately tanned, dark hair, you'd have a medium contrast complexion and get away with almost anything...

Eye colour is a really good cue to pick up - esp. in your tie or pocket square.

As far as dark green suits go - pink is great as it de-emphasises the casual-ness of the colour. It's also the only way you can get away with wearing brown suits in the city.

Edit: just noticed you have bought a peach shirt - this would go well provided you're not a very low contrast complexion. What do you think when it's on?

I'm tan with brown hair, brown eyes.

I thought the peach shirt made me look like a pumpkin, but I'm pretty pale right now thanks to a hard bike ride and needing sleep. I tried yellow and it looked pretty good.

I'll check again tomorrow when I'm rehydrated and awake.

edit: the yellow shirt wasn't a good dress shirt, I just thought the color contrasted well with the suit color

A low contrast complexion - all it means is you should be careful that your suit, shirt, tie etc. are not too contrasting. When you wear a white shirt with a very dark suit, people will see the suit and not your face. Unless your particularly shy it's not a good look. With the brown/tan comments, I'd suggest a moderate to deep pink, a deep yellow or airforce blue would be good. Not too light with the shirts. If you're wearing a tie or pocket square, try to pick up the brown in your eyes. A pink shirt, yellow/gold tie and brown pocket square would be smashing.

pink would work with dark green? I'd rock it if I could pull it off.

This has to be one of the oddest, though strangely fascinating, threads in a long time.

Probably among the most useful, too.

Just sayin'.

There's nothing un-gentlemanly about the sartorial arts

Attached is a nice example of mid-green with light blue... the red/blue pocket square provides interest and contrast.

Dark green, deep pink and rust would work - it's bold but if you can pull it off.

Not un-gentlemanly. Over-gentlemanly.

Back on track now: from the color swatches, and this being a bike forum, it's looks like this situation calls for either a T-Mobile or Rabobank jersey underneath...

I'm going to start with the obvious question: Why did you buy a green suit?

Go back to the place you bought the suit and ask them to suggest an appropriate shirt and tie. If it's someplace like Men's Wearhouse, they'll set you up very nicely.

All I can think of is the suits Jim Carry and the other dude wear in Dumb and Dumber.

So at my mom's wedding, one of her and her husbands friends had a tuxedo bike jersey. Maybe you can just pimp that out?

Edit: Now with image goodness

You are such a prick. First of all you barely visit anymore and when you do you show up to Foo to crap on some guy's thread.

PS - I do agree with the green suit comment. If you have to buy ONE suit, you have to make it a navy blue one. After that you make your second suit a charcoal suit. After that you are free to explore with pinstripes and other colours but not before getting the navy and charcoal suit. You want your suits to look good and last you a long time. The different colours fall out of fashion too easily and quickly.

awww Im sure you'll look awesome!
stay away from blue, ( doesnt match) you got yourself a dark suit so go with a bright color shirt!
very light yellow can be nice with green( or plain white) and a yellow and green tie can do!
Not sure about the peach, you got a pic of what you have in mind?
