Good, new metal bands?

This is obviously subjective, but anyone know some good metal bands worth a listen?

Of course "metal" expends a large genre. I'm looking for less grindcore/hardcore, more epic/doom. Good examples are Summoning, Symphony X, and Iron Savior.

I like platinum, personally. Good heft, hypoallergenic, doesn't bend or come out of round easily. Plus I like the silver color vs gold. It's not very new, however, and it does tend to pinch sometimes with my MTB handlebars....

Define "new" last year, decade, etc?

Nightwish is great stuff, pity they had the drama with changing their singer, but they still sound great.

Here's a few...
In Flames
Allyptic
Atreyu
Trivium

Diablo. But I think they are just a little local Helsinki thing. Or 45 Degree Woman. But again, probably a Helsinki thing. PM me if you want and I'll send you burt CDs of them. Actually, I'm feeling nice. A free one to the first five people. After that I won't charge, I'm just too lazy to do it.

You should try Spheric Universe Experience. They have a weird name I know but they are an excellent new progressive metal band from France. They sing in english in case you were wondering. If you really want doom and gloom listen to Primordial. BTW are you planning on seeing Symphony X on their current tour? I'm seeing them on wednesday.

I'm waiting for a good gnu metal band to come out.

I hear those beasts can be pretty wilde.

/can't keep up with the thesaurus-metal bands...what's the difference between grind, epic, doom, death, speed, and hardcore? Is it a simple distinction?

The two I named, 45 Degree Woman and Diablo aren't as heavy. You can actually understand a lot of what they say, which is a big plus for me.

KingTermite, there is a fantastic new heavy metal band named JUDAS PRIEST that sounds great. I've heard of 'em and think you may have, too.

Well, they were new once... 30 years ago!

But they're pretty much the best anyway, so who needs new stuff?

JP, Mastodon are both good bands, although genres of metal are quite disparate. JP is the essential NWOHM, Mastodon is more hardcore.

Bands in different genres can have quite a different sound. For example, its quite doubtful that one would confuse JP with Deicide, Lamb of God with My Dying Bride, or Megadeath with Mortician. Your best pet, if you don't know metal genres, is to give bands in each genre a listen. Wikipedia has a good guide for bands to get started with.

I should have stated a time frame. I'm always looking for bands, regardless how they have been around, usually within the past 2-5 years, preferably with an album release in the past couple years.

I've try myspace, but I keep getting the "Blecch, I wasted 2-3 minutes of my life I will never get back" or "is there a way to FDISK my brain?" feeling.
