Any runners out there?

hi, im starting running as i am thinking about a career in the armed forces, i got told i needed to achieve 1.5 miles in 12 minutes to qualify to get in (i think). so i went out today and i did it in 12-13 minutes (cant tell with watch). anyway i was just wondering if this was a respecful time to be doing it in. im hoping to get it under 10 minutes after 5 weeks of running.

has anyone else tried running and progressed over time?
anyone got any tips to help me?

thanks

Running 1.5 miles in 12-13 is quite respectable, hills. Continue to get some running miles on your legs, and definitely make sure you are eating a somewhat healthy diet.

I'm going to run in my first half marathon in October! :)

Which branch are you thinking about joining? It's a good idea (so I have been told) to have a basic idea of military rank and how to salute properly before heading off to boot (or basic).

Ah, didn't realize you were across the pond!

Regardless of that, happy training towards a commendable goal!

You must be young since you're considering the armed forces as a career/ If you're in reasonable shape (I assume you are since you on this forum), it's easy to do 1.5 miles that quickly. With a little training, nine minutes should be very easy. That's just a 6 minute/mile pace.

I run, focusing on the 5k. 1.5 miles in 12 minutes should really be fairly easy, provided you are not running with a pack and in army boots. :). With a little training you should easily do it in under 10 minutes.

You can always look at joining a rec soccer or frisbee team, that gets you out running for a good amount.
