working the 9-5

Where does everybody work? What do you do to keep yourself from going nuts when you have "down time"?

I'm an admin. assistant (basically I answer phones, type letters, make photocopies, set up appointments etc) so I have a ton of spare time that I spend surfing the web. Some of my favorite spots are facebook, cuteoverload.com, consumating.com and my all time favorite, youtube. Does anyone have other sites they frequent, or any good/funny videos they could share, to keep me entertained? Thnx!!

I work at a company that makes valves for shipboard and aerospace use.

I am a mechanical engineer and design, analyze and test said valves.

If I have a spare 5 minutes after lunch, I surf the internet.

But there's not much spare time around here.

Now get back to work! :D

I work at a pharmaceutical company, reviewing analytical documentation. Spare time, I bike, write music, and record my album. Oh, and I read a lot, very slowly.

restaurant owner but I like to promote myself to food tester most the time:D

Jerseysbest 07-31-07 02:08 PM

GIS Specialist/Cartographer. I get some downtime between projects, and when big projects are stalled.

I try to avoid high bandwidth sites like Youtube cause my web usage would stick out. If I'm not reading BF, the news, or emailing someone, I might read something related to my field, so if anyone asks, its work related.

I'm a consultant with many clients. I spend a lot of my day at client sites with my laptop and wireless adapter/aircard so I often look at this site in between meetings and just to take a break from things and clear my head. I also spend many hours at home working late nights and early morning so I don't feel guilty about checking here.

I work from home, which offers plenty of spare time.

I work with the FHA Multifamily portfolio at HUD so I'm watching the HUD MF portfolio implode as well. Plus tons of people are retiring and they have no plans to back fill the positions! Should be interesting in a couple of years when this office of 200+ is reduced to zip with pee-ons like me and the janitor running the place for min wage!

Luwin1026 07-31-07 02:35 PM

Marriage/family therapist here - typically try to sneak in a quick peek here and there in between clients or meetings, or early in the morning.

Receiving Clerk. I count bike parts all day. Time to get back to it, as a matter of fact.

Shadiyah 07-31-07 02:42 PM

I'm a bookkeeper/payroll clerk for a local theatre chain. I basically play around here when I have some free time. I usually keep pretty busy though.

I'm an IT Project Manager in the Applications Department in a law firm. I do some hands-on web stuff too. Once in a while (ok alot) I need to take a break and get my sanity back so I check out BF (wow I don't feel like a newbie anymore), my personal email and read the news online. I try not to hit the videos sites too much at work. Some video sites I know of though www.thatvideosite.com and www.consumptionjunction.com and http://www.stuffonmycat.com/

Owner of a Reforestation company in Costa Rica.

Eboo 07-31-07 02:52 PM

Medical librarian. I'm online all day. I read Salon, browse etsy.com (I make design jewelry, too) and read library blogs, in between monkeying with our databases and beating unruly patrons.

donnamb 07-31-07 03:01 PM

I'm the office manager of an agency that provides community mental health and alcohol & drug treatment. It's really high stress around here, so I relax and unwind by volunteering as a moderator on this forum.
