Cell phones... gahh.. pie....

It's seriously impossible to figure out what to get these days in terms of phones. What I want.. is what everyone wants. Cheap, reliable service, as much unlimited minutes as possible, a pretty phone, etc etc. Pretty soon, my current cell will be no more, and I need to get a new phone.

Verizon- Good service but overall pretty overpriced considering minutes/$ ratio.

Singulair- I was told had trippy service.

Tmobile- Right now sounds the best, good personal plans, good service, cheapest I can find, only problem is I'm binded into a 2 year contract. To get out there is a 200$ fee. I know for a fact I won't need the 2 years.

Ghettropcs- Bad service, pretty much works in the city only.. Good prices.

So I ask... what plans/ phones are you on?

Right now I'm looking at one of these two phones, with the cheapest my 5 favs deal.

Thoughts? complaints about cell phones? etc etc?

Really? I thought they were the service that helped alleviate allergies. Any trips are just a side effect, akin to flatulance and bleeding from the eyes. A small price to pay.

Aw, man, what a letdown. That olive-drab DynaTAC knockoff shown above has a big color screen, plays MP3s, and has a freaking built-in camera. Lame! Would have been the perfect casing for a simple, useful phone with an ass-ton of battery life. Sigh.

This is what I'm probably going to get, if I don't get a Wing. Call me a heretic, but I like Windows Mobile phones.

I never would have got the joke w/o the link. My brain parsed the misspelling without so much as a pause.

Didn't Cingular get absorbed by the Death Star of AT&T? I recently upgraded my phone, and all the stores/logos/billing letterhead, etc. is all AT&T around here.
Maybe it's different by you, Pheard, but up here the Cingular/AT&T service is really good.

AT&T Wireless (not part of AT&T proper) became Cingular.

Cingular got bought out by Pacific Bell.

Then Pacific Bell got absorbed into SBC.

Then SBC bought AT&T, and changed its name to AT&T.

Or something like that. Jesus, just go whole hog and change it to Bell System already.

I've got an 8525 WinMobile, and it's awesome. Phone, web, mail client, fully integrated with Outlook, wireless hotsync to my Google calendar, plus mobile Word/Excel/PPT, pdf viewer, and I've got Skype and my chat services on it. For anything not involving big presentation work, I've pretty much quit bringing a laptop. Oh, Windows media player for videos and mp3's, too; and I run a server from home where I can access my entire library as a selectable streamcast.

Although I use Veryamyst, Albuterol and Zytec for allergies and asthma, I use Cingular/AT&T.

But for you, out here,

Metro.

Pay month to month $45 bucks. Unlimited calls, and long distance. No contract.

Oh wait. No job, no money. No Metro.

Cingular was the way to go for me. I have a SLVR and enjoy it. It's a phone and it's small. Has a camera and some MP3 feature but they never get used.

There's MetroPCS here as well, and apparently it's really, really terrible service. Call someone, and their phone will never ring, calls just vanish, text messages don't make it, etc. Prices are good, but if you can't rely on the damn thing, what's the point?

My phone is an extra line off of a Cingular family plan thing, so I'm paying about $12 a month. In any case, though, Cingular seems to work pretty well for me, as far as I've noticed.

Yep, already been told ghettro pcs sucks for service. Even local and within the city calls. There's a reason it's 45$ for unlimited everything.

Unlimited crappay service that is.

I'm looking at a my 5 fav plan, 40 dollars a month. Unlimited to 5 people, plus unlimited weekends and nights.

Cingular is unlimited to anyone with Cingular, and I think nights and weekends are free. Not sure how much a full plan costs, though.

Heh, heh... I actually have one of those phones from way back in .... 1986 or so... I'm thinking of gutting it and putting a modern phone inside with a BIG battery. But then again, why would I need 7-weeks of run-time? Not that big a deal to put it on the charger each night.

I'd go for the slimmest phone with decent talk time I can find (2hrs+).

Reasoning...I don't like letting man + dog know I have a cell, nor do I like having to haul a charger around because the phone is so small that it has a battery the size of a flea with elephantitis.

That and it's so easy to get a phone like a Razr for free anymore for a 1yr contract...so do that, then when it's time for a new phone negotiate a new free slim phone. If they stonewall you, try to change carriers, that usually works (they will ofetn give you a phat discount and that free phone if you sweetalk them properly).

Egads, you people have expensive phones. I don't understand how cell phones in Europe, a continent where you must pay for everything, are so cheap. We have two cell phones (no land line, so we use them a lot) and the average total monthly bill (combined) is around 200 crowns, or about $35 (tack on $5/month for calling the US on a calling card).

It's bizarre. Or maybe phones in the US aren't as expensive as I think.

My daughter has T-mobile and loves it. She has a pink razor.

We just got new phones and new service at work. We're now on Verizon. I can't complain because its free.
