Most of the itunes updates are for their new products )iphone, new generation ipods) so i never install them unless there is some critical update attached.
Bugs the hell outta me too

Be glad they don't maintain Windows. If constant 60MB downloads are what it takes to keep some music software running, imagine what it would take to do everything else.....

Of all the things you could complain about.

Apple is as much a cult as it is a company - and while they do have a history of innovation, they are egregious in their pricing. I would be ashamed to ask people for as much money as they do for their products.

One could say the same about BMW or Pinarello. Are they worth the premium price? Depends on who you ask? I get more value and enjoyment out my Mac than I ever did out of a Windows machine. I'm in front of a computer for 10+ hours a day. For me it's definitely worth the price, for you I'm guessing not so much. To each his own. =)

The PCs not so much... I-pods, I-phone - definitely overpriced.

Automatic updates = "What the hell, why is it takes 10 minutes for my computer to shutdown... oh wait updates!"

I hate the "remind me later.... remind me later... remind me later..." every 5 minutes, just wait till I shut down the machine please.

People who usually own BMWs have too much money to spend on a car, and too little time to learn how to actually drive it.

Anyway, I'd go 100% Linux before I'd be willing to shovel out a good $1000 cash for basically a molested Unix with a flashy GUI.

Apple to me is the slightly less ethical, but more trendy version of Microsoft. Microsoft is a jerk behind closed doors (and what jerks they can be...), Apple is a jerk in your face, and customers LIKE it, and usually try to justify it. D: It's depressing.

uhm, how hard is it to install an iTunes update, really?

i mean, i'm using an underpowered XP Pro pc with a first-gen AirPort base station, and it all happens lickety-split.

Dear skinnyone,

You can reject the updates, or turn the updater off. They are not mandatory. Open iTunes -> iTunes menu -> Preferences -> General -> Uncheck "Automatically check for updates".

We apologize for keeping your software up to date and running smoothly with your peripherals.

iTunes updates were high on the ignore list last time I used OS X. iTunes seemed to get more annoying with each new version. I think I stopped at 4.6 or 4.8 or so. Hated 5, went back, never bothered with any further updates.
