Haha, thanks. The beard is gone anyway.

I think I have decided to skip the suit and wear some nice slacks and a new shirt and tie. I talked to the recriuter and he said that for this first interview I'm probably OK without a suit. The third interview will have to be a suit, but I have some time for that. I'm probably making too much of this, I could nail it wearing spandex.

I vote for a new suit too. Dark blue. Dark dark dark, beyond navy, blue. Single breasted, 2 or 3 buttons, conservative lapels and naturalish shoulders. New white pinpoint shirt. And a nice bright solid or rep stripe tie.

You'll be so money, you won't even know how money you are.

Also, make sure your hair matches your tie, and your messenger bag matches your socks. Otherwise there will be ridicule.

My suit makes me look so money that my money calls me money.

Not sure what career you are looking at but if it's conservative (finance, law) you will not be wanting to wear yellow, flourescent ties or any such nonesense (especially not to an inverview). Style and class is what you need to present.

Do not wear anything with herringbones, chalks, plaids, glenchecks etc. - even pins are a push if its a conservative workplace.

If you're not getting a new suit, the first is far superior. However you really need to work out what's going on with the sleeve length. A poor fitting double-breasted looks much worse than a poor-fitting single breasted.

If your shopping for a new suit keep it simple: charcoal (or navy blue), 2-button single-breasted, notch lapel, two pockets, double vented (no centre vents on business outfits please), pleated (fly facing ideally), 4 buttons on sleeves. Find a good barrel cuff shirt (avoid flashy French/double cuffs for an interview) that fits will in the neck and sleeve. Body fit isn't so important as it will be hiding under the jacket which you will *not* remove while in the office.

Quality white 100% cotton shirt (gentle texture/pattern is fine), no button-down collar and not too wide collar spread with a conservative tie (four-in-hand or half-windsor only) such as: http://www.samhober.com/store/englis...-3-p17281.html . When choosing the tie avoid stripes (too casual), geometric patterns, plaids and flowers. Dots or plain is the most serious for ties.

Top it off with good leather-soled black shoes (Oxford preferably) to a good polish and you're almost guaranteed the position.

Remember to turn off your cell/mobile phone.

Choose style over fashion (boo to designer suits!).

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I would have expected "keep it simple" to be followed with simple advice like "Buy something that looks nice and fits well."

Simple in this context is not designer. All those many attributes listed above wouldn't be necessary to list if not for the sartorial terrors unleashed in men's fashion magazines and catalogues. There is no excusing four button single-breasted suits unless you are: a) serving drinks, b) a clown.

Dang, if a job interview realies this much on the suit which is worn, then who would want a job like that?

(Yes, I understand the concept of competition, but if winning the competition of the interview is based on the suit you wear, then no way--the job, in my mind, relies on things that shouldn't matter. Then again, I wouldn't be looking for those types of jobs, anyway, I guess.)

It is simple:

Go to London
Have suit made
Come home
Wear suit for interviews, weddings and your funeral

Nailed it. I wore the first suit with a light blue shirt and a simple blue/lavender striped tie. The tie may have been a bit much, but I didn't want to walk in there looking like the last 6 guys in yellow/red ties. I set up a time for a second interview for next week.
