Wisdom Tooth: I Don't Feel Any Wiser

Just in a great deal of pain, and like I can't position my swollen-ass jaw correctly. I know it is hard to believe, but this puts me in a bad mood.

The wisdom in a wisdom tooth is that it smarts like all hell when recovering from getting those sucker yanked.

I highly recommend this wisdom-tooth recovery food....

I spent the next week eating only banana creme pies. I was in heaven!

Had all of mine carved out on the same day as well.
That's when I learned that I'm foul mouthed and bitter when I'm recovering from a local anesthetic.

Just had all four removed couple months ago. For someone who can drink a lot of beer, I was a light weight to the anesthetia and pain meds. Nothing like having a conversation your pastor just before church about Pink Floyd lyrics.

I had mine out years ago, and still don't remember how I got home. Somehow I woke up many hours later, at home, in a dark room. I was in a world of pain, too.

Turns out that my college roommate had taken me home. I was out cold for hours. I can't figure out why the dental surgeon's office allowed me to leave .

I had mine removed when I was in my late 20's. Only had two on the bottom with the top two missing already (which explains a lot about my level of actual wisdom).

The recovery hurt. And hurt. And hurt.

And the rot. Gah. My breath smelled like a friggin sewer for about two weeks until the healing really kicked into gear.

And despite asking once prior to anesthesia and probably 150 times while I was still loopy, the oral surgeon wouldn't give me the uprooted teeth.

if he gave them all away, he would not have a cool tooth necklace to wear to the annual Oral Surgeons Halloween Ball.

Had all 4 taken out at once too - but with the request that I be put out. Never had a problem with them either. Mashed potatoes and applesauce was my meal of choice.

I was out cold when the last three of my wisdom teeth were removed, so I was perfectly happy (groggy) the first day. But then I got dry socket in one of the sites and there was a lot of pain. But I only took Ibuprofen for the pain (only helped a little). I had a bottle of Vicodin but never took it. I think I gave it away.

I got all 4 of mine yanked when I was about 16 or 17. Dentist told me he would give me three forms of anesthesia: a local shot of novacaine, nitrous oxide gas, and a shot of sodium pentathol.

Since I was 16 or 17 -- and since this was the 1970's -- my initial thought was "Cool, real nitrous! This is bound to be more fun than trying to suck Reddi-Whip canisters in the parking lot of the convenience store!"

So I'm sitting there with a schidt-eating grin on my face, just waiting for the nitrous. He sticks me in the gums with the novacaine. Still smiling. He shoots me in the arm with the sodium pentathol. Still smiling. He brings the mask up to my face, tells me he wants me to breath deep and count backwards from 10, and then, just before pressing mask to face says "Why are you smiling?" I said "I can't wait to feel the effects of the nitrous!" He laughed and said "Don't get your hopes up."

I remember counting down to 7. Then I woke up 4 hours and 4 wisdom teeth later.

Took me another 2 years before I got to experience some really good nitrous.

Two impacted wisdom teeth out at about 16 years old. I remember waking up halfway through the procedure to the "ka-thunk, ka-thunk, ka-thunk" of the chisel. Two dry sockets. Was awful.

At my request, the oral surgeon is now burning in hell, being forced to listen to an endless loop of Pcad carrying on about last weekend's nyack ride.

under sleep or just gas?

I had all 4 done the same day with just gas. Although I did make sure I wasn't taking anything remotely like capellini for the first week

Had two...both had to be pulled cause they were interfering with the tendons in the back of my mouth.
1st one the dentist literally put his knee in my chest to pull the tooth out. Gave me some pills and told me to go home. Took 1 pill and was fine the next day.
2nd tooth, he had no trouble pulling...gave me some pills and sent me home. Next day the side of my face looked like the wife used a baseball bat on me in the middle of the night. Stayed swelled up for almost a week. Glad that was the last one.

Actually had 4 other teeth taken out to make room for braces - now those they did individually with novocaine - lots of shots --- best ones are when the needle goes past it's mark and pops into the sinuses and the hammering - one tooth flew across the room and hit the wall.
