As much as I like Citroen in general, I grew up with them, the SM is something special. Whether you like it's looks or not it's got such a presence, it's looks alien, always very different from any car next to it. Bad paint, rust, damaged, beige, it doesn't matter it will always be eye catching.

The 2CV always was eye-catching in an alien looking fashion, always very different from any car next to it.

Pictures taken in Lindau, Germany, in 2001.

I'm very familiar with it, my friend in high school had one. It was the first car I drove on the road. His dad had restored a DS. My parents had a GSA break in the early 80's, then two or three BX's, an XM, a C3 and a Picasso. I never had the same loyalty to the brand, but loved a used BX diesel break for vacation with friends, and the BX 1.9 petrol was a great car. Just quick without any drama, predictable, nimble, great brakes and always extremely comfortable.

Anyway, 2cv's were around a lot, much more than in Germany, it was the car of choice for any self respecting, left wing, bike advocating, nuclear bomb protesting, wife swapping social worker in the 70's and early 80's. It was a statement, for people who needed to drive but didn't want anything to do with the status and competive things associated with cars. So to me it has never been that alien and it shares some looks with the Beetle. It certainly doesn't look like a spaceship, and the SM does. Pictures really don't do it justice, it's much more impressive IRL.

A couple of beauties snapped from cycling around London the last few days. Karmann Ghia

When Mercs were pretty

The most beautiful Peugeot ever, Pininfirina designed 504.

And finally a curvaceous beauty from your side of the pond that's made it over here, a Ford Custom Deluxe Tudor.

ewww I know taste is personal etc but I think that Zagato Aston is absolutely hideous. I don't now whether its design was altered for safety or any other conditions for selling in the USA, but that looks the ugliest Aston ever apart from maybe the Cygnet.
