At this point I think the law would be on your side in assuming that it has been abandoned.

If it doesn't run anymore, I'd convert it to electric drive and drive it around the South Bay like I stole it.

no way....drop a modern turbocharged 4 banger in that baby, beef up the suspension, and cause all sorts of mayhem.

That lack of feedback isn't the fault of the EPAS, that's the fault of the guy who designed it. You can make an electric power steering unit that feels like you're steering a truck, or one which does truly have no feel (this is much harder to drive than you would expect). Of course you also get vehicles (think box van) where the suspension geometry is so poor that no power steering unit in the world will make it feel good.

After all this time, maybe his feelings for the car aren't as strong as they once were.

He has a '67 MGB sitting too. That's my birth year. I'll make the moves on one of the two and get him to settle for letting the other go.

They live in those.
However I know of a barn find MGA and a 80s BMW 6 series in the area.

I like the way you think. It needs one of these.

It's a version 4 EJ20K. 8300RPM, 280-ish CHP, boxer rumble.

Another 126 coupe widebody... I know I need some variety, but these are like the ultimate symbol of excess from the ultimate time of excess. I love my 4 door 126 chassis, but I really wish I could afford to add one of these to the garage. I'll try to think up something besides one of these to post for next time.

The regular coupe is pretty and classy.

I love the pre-90s Mercedes but the dark days have completely turned me away from them. I no longer trust the brand.

I can see how the WB would seem garish. I like the euro spec 126 coupe, and the US spec can look good, but the front bumper is so big it is often compared to a train cow-catcher. The color scheme is a huge factor in how the regular ones look.

And yea, the fiasco with using biodegradable wire harnesses in the mid-nineties and then the corner cutting during the merger ruined a lot of peoples' trust in them. I hear since ~'07 the build quality is massively improved, but my interest in their cars pretty much lies in the 80's and before... Their only appeal to me nowadays is the ridiculous amount of power some of their cars put out, but I would never buy one, and that's probably just the little boy inside me talking anyways.

Agree, but they didn't cut corners... they cut wholesale and went bargain basement. The quality of those vehicles is appalling.

I like the last of the good ones- the early 90s W124 500E (widebody done right), that vintage is perfect. Modern yet still Mercedes.
Anything earlier is pretty great too.

Yea the 500E was great, though I'm not a big fan of the 124's styling... How could a car built by both Porsche and Mercedes not be awesome?
