Costa Rica - Part Tres

Joe and I recently returned from our third trip to Costa Rica. The purpose of this visit was to take my mom down with us and show her where we would be living. We also were able to officially mark off our land where our house (and eventually dance studio w/cabinas) will be. In addition to checking out our homesite, we enjoyed quite a few other fun activities that Costa Rica has to offer. I think my favorite was swimming in a waterfall and going white water rafting. Here are a couple of highlight pics.

This will be what we will see on our front porch. Our house will be on the top of a hill which is somewhat visible in this pic.

A few more different views from our homesite. You can all across the Caribbean Plains on a clear day.

Apparently Joe is very happy with the land. And my awesome photography skills.

This area is down the hill from where our house will be and will be a great location from the dance studio and cabinas. You might recognize a certain Fooster in this pic:

The house rental we stayed at was right next to Lake Arenal. This was our view from the front porch:

We did go down in the rainy season so it got a bit blustery at times:

There was a neat butterfly conservancy not too far from where we were staying. They had some lovely flowers there as well.

The hanging bridges tour was pretty cool.

So was the rafting.

One night, we took a boat tour out to see the volcano. It was really cool, you could see the lava and hear it roll down. We even got a bit of fishing in, but we didn't catch anything.

Some cute pics of horses:

Yummy edibles:

An "interesting" tree:

An even more "interesting" souvenir that my mom bought on accident:

All in all, we had a great time. My mom is a bit more relaxed about our moving away, and we couldn't be happier.

Looks grand. Some day I'll go there (hopefully). Bicycling there from Missouri would be a nice adventure don't you think?

I am curious, how will the two of you make a living once you move to costa rica? ... Are you going to farm some of your land to supplement your income?

btw, Costa Rica looks really nice... would love to check it out some day.

Yes, I am going to be teaching lessons at some point, as well as hosting many retreats, getaways, etc. A studio would be a good thing to have for all of that. Plus, I've always wanted to have my own designated space for dancing in.

Weird, huh? You can't see it very well in this pic, but he's holding something huge in his hands. My mom bought 5 of these without her glasses on and she thought they were witches cauldrons.

Sometimes, its hard to believe that this is all real and it is really happening. I feel lucky, for sure!

Thanks red house!

We plan to be as self sufficient as possible with very few expenses. I hope we get to the point where we are growing almost all of our own food, and we will be making our own electricity via micro-hydro. We don't have to worry about water consumption down there like we do in Utah. I suspect that most of the money we will be using will be on traveling and gas for driving into town. Also, we plan to run a little eco-tourism business at some point with some cabinas to rent out so we will get money coming in from that. At the very least, we will be renting out our downtown SLC loft and that will probably end up paying for most of our expenses.

Thanks guys! And yes, the cabinas will be available for both friends and family.

This is something that we are really feeling torn on. We are trying to do away with the internet here at home because it is such a time eater. It is a possibility to have the internet at our home in Costa Rica, but we're really not sure if we want it there. We will have so much to do on a daily basis, that having the internet could really get in the way of that. And yet, we realize that it will be a wonderful resource to keep in steady contact with people we care about. Still, I think we are leaning towards going into town for free wifi for our internet needs.

looks amazing! I'm sure I missed it in parts 1 and 2, but when is the official move?
I know a gal in the peace corps down there, she's loving it so much she's signed on for a few more years.
yes, I predict a housewarming party with invites sent to foosters!
