robncircus, you get comments on that Citizen 'cuz it's so clean-looking. I keep thinking about getting either that (or a couple other similar Citizens) or a Seiko 5 auto if/when the battery on my little Timex Camper finally dies (or its movement, since the case is cracked).

My solar atomic G-Shock is a great beater, but sometimes it's just plain BIG, especially under sleeves or gloves. Thin watches have their place, too.

Thanks. I have a Seiko 5 as well. For the price, I really enjoy it.

How's that Proximity working out? The reviews for the associated app on iOS aren't as good as I'd hoped to see. I want that watch to work well, too.

On the bike I wear my Suunto Ambit. I just use it as a time watch, don't actually engage GPS or anything else. I love the feel and look of it.

Outside of cycling/running, I wear my TAG Grand Carrerra RS2. My brother helped me out with buying this watch and I just love it.

I also love watches so I have lots of them lol, but those are my 2 I wear daily.

I have the black Ambit.

I wear my G-Shock more than all my other watches now even though it's the cheapest (DW-6900NB-7). I have resisted the urge to start collecting them like I did with my other watches. Don't need another hobby.

Orderd this yesterday for my vacation to HI. Nice FF homage:

I REALLY wanted this, but I don't know if I can handle the wrist presence at 48mm round and 20mm high. Maybe some day.

Anyone know how to judge the resale value on a used watch? I have had a gucci watch that has been sitting around for 2 years now and have thought about trying to sell it but dont know if it would even be worth it.

Ebay completed auctions.

Offers from pawn shops.

Craigs list ads.

All should give you some indication.

I am a practicalist..................my best watch is a slightly over $1000 Citizen Signature Eco-Drive. These are hand assembled and are fairly well priced if you want a great watch that is not gawdy like alot I see now days. Classy yet simple. Ti case and band with a Sapphire window! Great piece.

I have had several Eco-Drive watches over the year and they are my favorite for sure.

That makes no sense. I can't bring myself to spend more than about $120 on a watch. Every single function you get in a $1000 watch you can get in a $100 watch. That's being practical.

StephenH 07-30-13 08:40 PM

Pardon me if somebody already posted one of these. I didn't want to read through 49 pages of "Roadies and Watches" to see, know what I mean?

But here's my fine Armitron Watch:
http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps520bff39.jpg

The cool part is that it is Water Resistant to 330 feet. So like if you're diving to 320 feet and you need a good $8 watch, I recommend this model, found at fine Walmarts everywhere.

You know, it was a real Marketing Genius that came up with that "Water Resistant" phrase. That's like saying a windowscreen is "Grizzly Resistant". It may not keep the grizzly out, but by golly, those little wires will just give it their all trying to keep him out, and that's all you can really ask from a windowscreen. Or an $8 watch.

After you price a Tag; Breitling; Rolex; Bel & Ross; Cartier and such others you will see. I guess making sense could be what you need over what you want at times. Likewise I bet you have a more expensive road bike than me which I could say the same to you when you could get a basic bike with Tiagra components now couldn't I????

$120 on a watch makes no sense. You can get a perfectly functional watch for $10, and if you carry a phone, you don't even need a watch.

So owning even the cheapest watch isn't "practical".

An expensive watch is essentially a piece of jewelry, or if you prefer a work of art.

It' comparable to say I'd never buy a suit from Brooks Borthers because a T shirt and jeans covers my body as well for a fraction of the price.

excellent point
