My room was robbed

I just got back to our hotel.
I no longer have luggage, nor an iPhone (which was in my bag).
House keeping of course claims nothing was in my room.
The motel manager is arguing with the cops that I'm lying.

These people can go to hell. Thieving *******s. I'm going to find a new place for the night.
I so wish I had the cash, and time to take them to small claims court.

Sucks bro.

Maybe the hotel can explain to the cops why someone would check into a hotel with no earthly possessions....

The cops are about as concerned as if my bicycle were stolen.

Was yawning the official response? Make sure you leave with a "free" hotel souvenier.

DANG that sucks.

About the court thing, it can be an awful lot of fun to represent yourself. If you really do your research, you can do a better job than a lawyer would have. I can understand not having time, but money shouldn't be as much of a problem. The SH's already stole your property, so you really don't have anything more to lose, and it's not like it's the most important problem of your life, so if I were you I'd take a stab at being my own lawyer.

Make sure you keep your own records of the name of every person working in that hotel, and a detailed list of what you had stolen, as well as any other relivant info like exact dates and times. If you do take it to court, it will be important to have. I'm sure the cops might record what happened, but it's best to have your own records, in addition to FOIAing theirs if you take it to court.

Thieves are usually not too bright--buy a cheap pay-as-you-go cell phone, and keep calling your old number as you roam the premises. Listen for the ring, and beat the living **** out of the person when you find them.

Then bring in hotel management, and threaten far worse if they don't return the rest of your stuff.

Actually not a bad idea ... minus the beating part.

Yep, better to use simple pepper spray. That saves the busted knuckles.

Seriously though, theives are stupid, but your stuff is probably already in someones trunk or house.

I would try calling it, just to make sure, and even if it's not still there just try to figure out who has it, and maybe even see if you can get the idiot to give you his name.

Yes, I disavow any involvement in that suggestion. Someone has taken over my computer. Bad person, go away.

The cost is the fact I'm 600+ miles from home. Travel is what makes it impractical.

I'm surprised! Muncie is a pretty low crime city! Call me if you need any help. My Land line is on your PM's. I'm about an hr away.

Sorry you're stuck in Muncie which is total s-hole. About the only distinctive is David Letterman graduated from Ball State... as a chronic C student, of course.

Thanks for the sympathy folks.

I paid for the room with my AmEx, and I think I'm covered by their insurance.
Good thing my favorite thing to wear is black t-shirts and jeans, 'cause I'm going to WalMart.

I've given the cops all the info on my phone. Maybe they can use its GPS to track it down.

Sorry to hear about that Allen. On the bright side, at least it wasn't your bike that was stolen. Does the hotel have any security cameras? Even if they didn't catch the scumbags looting your room, maybe there's footage of you checking in with your luggage? (Although it doesn't sound like the hotel management would be too helpful in this case.)

Sucks, sorry to hear that. I have a couple friends who have been cleaned out in France, which has the side benefit of at least you're in France.

Thanks Tom, that's kind. With the failing auto industry putting a bite on the town, and being an underpaid cleaning staff, I can see the temptation.

Still want to give everyone I see a swirly, but all I'm out is a couple of pairs of shorts, some jeans, a tooth brush, my beloved phone (now I can justify the 3 G) etc. Nobody is hurt, hope they get fleas.

My brother says he'll write a program tonight to send a text and an email once a min--forever.

I should put a property of DARPA or FBI label on my next phone.

Yeah, I was going to start a pattern of sending a text a minute myself out of Belarus telling them in Russian to return the phone or Ivan would be visiting.

You know, I'm surprised cell phone makers haven't put a 'lojack' hardware/software device in cell phones. Would be VERY useful, because you could use the device to override the codes so the phone would ring loudly, emit piercing sounds, etc. so at least the azzwipes that took it would suffer even if the phone wasn't found.

Crap, it hit me. Karma, I should not have been on my brother's case about dragging his ass on this trip.
If he wants to stop to look at a sea of corn, then so be it, we'll stop and peruse corn.
