CBS is really going to take a lot of flack over the halftime show - it's already started. My kids are all grown and gone, but they used to watch football with me - especially the Super Bowl - before they were even in elementary school. With the lyrics and the rauchyness of the show, I'd have been embarrassed to have them watch it. In fact, I'd have turned it off. Kids do not need to have sex and explict lyrics shoved down their throats. I know it's on MTV, in magazines, in music, and everywhere else these days, but I don't think it belongs in a Super Bowl halftime show to the degree it was tonight. The "entertainers" showed no respect for the viewers, themselves, or each other. It's just another example of the entertainment industry not being in touch with the majority of Americans' values. Now, I'm no prude. I think adult entertainment has its place - in an adult environment - not the Super Bowl halftime show. Watch - next week there will be numerous incidents at grade schools of boys trying to tear off girl's tops like they saw on the show. I guarantee there will be some incidents and the media will pick them up, except CBS of course. Too bad the halftime show marred an excellent football game.

Ok, let the flames begin....

Well it makes sense to me, for godsake she was
singing a song from 1982.
so she spiced it up, now noone is talking about the fact
that she was singing a 22 year old song.

BTW the Drudge report says that MTV and CBS knew about it
before it was aired. . .

Do you mean that metal star, or is there a pastie underneath the metalic star? If it's the star, it isn't much of a pastie.

ahem....from the Daily Scotsman. I believe the apropos line is in the eleventh graf, and reads "In England they really just let me get on my way, but there is no such discretion here."

Ah, the enlightened Scots...

End of the road for the Naked Rambler

JOHN ROSS

HE HAS amused and horrified in equal measure. He has been laughed at, beaten up, accused of being a pervert, arrested, jailed and become one of the most famous people to take the well-travelled route from one end of the country to the other.

Yesterday, Stephen Gough, the man dubbed the Naked Rambler, finally reached the end of his journey, John o’ Groats, seven months and nearly 900 miles after setting off from Land’s End.

Gough, 44, was cheered to the finishing line by a group of local residents and celebrated with a bottle of champagne - and by putting on his clothes.

Despite having not washed for seven days, he stopped short of taking a plunge into the Pentland Firth as the water was too cold.

However, his insistence on walking wearing just a bush hat, boots and carrying a rucksack, which led to him being reported to police on numerous occasions, was attacked by one MSP who accused him of seeking self-publicity to the cost of the Scottish taxpayer.

Gough, a former Royal Marine, took so long to complete his marathon as he spent five months behind bars.

In all, he was arrested 15 times, four times in the Highlands, and made four court appearances. The cost of legal hearings, as well as his accommodation in the already overcrowded Porterfield Prison in Inverness, where he spent Christmas and New Year, is estimated to be several thousands of pounds.

As he reached John o’ Groats yesterday, he told the waiting media that he undertook his walk as a protest, in order to celebrate the naked human form, and to try to convince the public to stop being "paranoid" about the naked body.

He said: "Despite landing up in jail so often, my mind was set to complete this mission, aimed at making people think more liberally. There is nothing wrong with the naked body, but unfortunately changes in thinking will happen slowly.

"I can’t say I was annoyed at being arrested because it actually helped increase the publicity. Without the harassment then there would be no journalists here. In fact the police officers who I have met have been very kind to me and wished me all the best throughout. I appreciate the law is different in Scotland.

"In England they really just let me get on my way, but there is no such discretion here."

He said he was looking forward to a big meal, having run out of food and been forced to drink water from streams.

He said he may write a book about his adventure.

Gough, of Eastleigh, Hampshire, has had repeated run-ins with the law in England, Wales and Scotland en route. He has appeared three times at Dingwall Sheriff Court and once at Inverness Sheriff Court in recent months, and was released from prison only last Thursday. Each time he appeared in the dock naked apart from a blanket held up by a police belt.

He was charged on each occasion with breach of the peace by conducting himself in a disorderly manner, walking naked in the presence of the public.

He was jailed twice and spent a total of five months behind bars. While in Porterfield, he refused to wear clothes and was placed in solitary confinement.

He still faces trial in Duns, Perth and Inverness on similar breach of the peace charges.

But Mary Scanlon, a Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP, said she was glad Gough would be leaving Scotland.

"Given that Porterfield is the most overcrowded prison in Scotland and has staff shortages, the presence of the Naked Rambler has added to the existing problems at the prison. Its outrageous that the Scottish Prison Service has to pick up the tab for this person.

"If someone wishes to highlight their human rights I don’t see why the taxpayer should pay the bill."

Mrs Scanlon said the walk seemed to be more about self-publicity than making any claim for naturism

Let's see.

If I read this story right, a couple of entertainment celebrities did something outrageous and are getting a lot of attention for it. There was tastelessness on television.

*Yawn*

Well, after extensive research on the Internet, I found out that the pastie is merely a piece of jewelry, which seems to be affixed to the nipple. This seems to be more for accenting the nipple than for covering the nipple. Have I typed the word “nipple” enough now?

Anywho, the whole thing reminds me of one of my favorite Seinfeld episodes ..."I'm not sure...correct me if I'm wrong...but I THINK I see a NIPPLE."

Not since the Paris Hilton video have so many man hours been wasted. I wonder how many millions of dollars of lost productivity there was today, with workers scouring the internet for a closer "peak."

Glad I didn't.

I saw the show and the game, if you didn't watch the game you missed the best superbowl in recent memory. tie game with 8 seconds on the clock - it doesnt' get any better than that.

the half-time show if not entertaining at least gave us something to talk about. But I liked it, Kid Rock rocks!

Personally, I thought it was stupid. It was a football game, but these rock stars think its all about them. Shame on CBS for putting on such a show. They should go back to marching bands at halftime.

This isn't the first time CBS showed a bare breast during prime time. Last year they did it on CSI.

RE: football. Who cares? I haven't watched in years. Don't watch baseball, hockey, basketball, etc either.

I tend to agree. If I want to see rock stars, I'll watch a rock concert. If I want to see football, I'll watch a football match. I thought half time was for pumping in all the ads anyway.

I really loved the term "wardrobe malfunction." I can't believe Pres Clinton never thought of that one.

I didn't bother watching the halftime show. I haven't in years, and I don't think I missed out on anything this year. But dang, the Stars Spangled Banner sure was great.

BTW, I love the Simpson's motif the staff has going.

I think it blows that the half time show completely overshadowed the opening ceremony and the tribute to the Columbia and its crew did not get more coverage. I think they should have incorporated more of a tribute into the half time show. What society deems important and the things that people get upset about these days just blows my mind.

The game however did kick arse!!! Best super bowl in a long, long time.

Both my husband and I figgured it was a purposeful stunt when we saw it.

My husband was suprised that the halftime show was so raunchy; he was saying this before the "dissappearing cup" act.

I was giving thanks that we don't have any broadcast or cable television at our house! (We watched the game at my mom's)

My sister sez my husband and I need to get out more because of the way we were rolling with laughter at some of the commercials. . .
