Twelve years ago I put down our corgi and couldn't bear the idea of another dog right away. It was 9 mos. before we got another.

A couple years later we got a second dog and the two were best friends for 7 years. The second dog developed GME (Google is your friend) suddenly and we had to put him down. My husband and the first dog were so depressed -- the dog looked for her friend before she'd eat -- broke our hearts. So we got another puppy about 2-3 weeks later.

So that first dog developed inoperable cancer last year and after we could compose ourselves we reserved a puppy in advance, while the first dog was still alive, because I knew I needed another pup to fill the void in my heart that dog was going to leave...and to keep the youngest dog company.

So...I'm a convert to the get another pet right away club.
