i grew up on cape cod, but moved to the white mountains of new hampshire years ago....you've got to love the season, and love snow and the cold....it's really quite beautiful here......but, if you want to know a secret, i do miss the ocean.

home is where the heart lies

where 'bouts are you moving to? i don't think i'll have a lot of trouble finding a job, but again, that depends on what happens with this economy over the next year. it may be such, that i can't move in a year (which would suck), but it that's the case, then so be it....

i'm 2.5hr from the ocean and i could care less about going...maybe it's different somewhere else...i love the cold, the snow, but i also want to be able to ride during the winter or have some other sport to keep me active...guess i'd have to learn to ski or snowboard.

We have extreme weather in San Diego. In the summer it get up to, like, 82 degrees, sometimes all the way up to 85! It's currently 66 deg outside so I wore my jacket this morning. Our winters can be brutal too, sometimes it gets down to the high 50's.

Civil engineering? Could you help Louisville make the roads better for cyclists?

Okay, never mind, this is Kentucky. I need to move also.

I can assure you that there is no such thing as a beach or a breeze in Orlando. It sucks. Haven't hated a place more after being there a year then I have here in Orlando. Hell, even where i went to school in Central PA was better then Orlando.

Why, I don't think anyone has suggested PA yet! It's actually a pretty good state with some very decent riding, but I don't know what the job opportunities are for CEs here. If you don't want to live in the big city, but want periodic access to one, you might try looking at the counties surrounding Philadelphia, like Montgomery, Bucks, and especially Chester- if you want to go a little west, Lancaster County is good too- just watch out for the horse flops as you ride. Some very pretty country there- very reminiscent of CT, actually.

And yeah, we do get snow, but not as much as CT, and certainly not as much as ME.

make sure you look at the Hudson Valley, Dutchess County in NY...close enough (2 hrs each way) by car or train to Manhattan to make weekend trips no prob and even commuting for the 'right' job. We LOVE it - small towns, beautiful and still affordable.

It's the middle of October and it's going to be about 90 degrees for the next several days. Oh, and Autumn here means millions of gnats in the air, everywhere. My desire to move has never been greater.

Yeah, I know it will cool down eventually. It just seems like summer will never end here. I get tired of warm weather by the end of May, so you can imagine how burned out I am by October.

There are always apt deals coming up in Brooklyn and Queens. WP, you're a Civil Engineer and each of the MTA's agencies (NYCT, LIRR, Metro North) consistently hires people for bridge inspection and other jobs. NJ Transit and the Port Authority (PANYNJ) are usually looking for good people as well.

I believe NYC has the best economy of the areas you mentioned, and the best opportunities for you.
