Wow. I just checked back here. Thanks to my Foo family. You have no idea how much it means to see this much response.

I'm sitting in the waiting area of the MRI facility, and she's just gone in for the scan. We'll soon know more, I hope.

How did it go? Were they able to give you the results quickly (I'm guessing not)?

No results yet, but we did meet with her doctor afterward. That really helped. He's very sharp and professional, and he sounded completely confident that this is curable. The results should be in and interpreted by Friday morning. The thing of which I'm now convinced is that, even if the diagnosis is what we suspect, there's a solid course of treatment and an excellent prognosis.

Thanks again to everyone, and I'll keep you posted.

Well, the diagnosis is confirmed or, at least, it's as confirmed as it can be when you're working off images alone. Biopsy isn't recommended for this sort of cancer because it can create a breach of containment and allow it to spread outside the kidney.

Anyway, the prognosis is good, so I'm staying upbeat. My wife sounds calmer than I do at this point, though. She's really centered, and I don't think it's just a veneer of calm. Surgery will be scheduled for January, and the good news is she's going to be taking some time off from work. Probably not in the way she would have envisioned, but a vacation is a vacation.

This sounds very promising indeed. Here's hoping for a smooth procedure and a swift recovery.

Precisely. It's the best really crappy diagnosis she could've gotten.
