My wife gave me $200 billion.

Got a couple of gift cards - some to mec.ca so I can go get some bike stuff.

:-)

Ok...

The country of my birth is going through a bit of a financial rough spot - the $100 billion note lasted two weeks before they scrubbed it and dropped ten zeros... and the exchange rate is back up to where they need it again. (My brother-in-law loved the fact that it had an expiry date on the bill - not that it lasted that long)

I'm not taking pics, because I'm too lazy.

I got:

Raceblade fenders
Park Tool Chain Wear Checker (CC-3)
Indoor/outdoor thermometer (for deciding how to dress for rides)
Roadie - The misunderstood world of a bicycle racer
The Rider by Time Krabbe
Cyclist's Training Bible - Joe Friel
$20 gift card to my LBS
and a really cool old framed picture of a dirt track fixed gear race from the 20s.

I was hoping for a Garmin 705, but that's ok. I figured they couldn't afford it this year. I'll just buy it myself next summer when I'm working, along with a power meter.

Already started reading "Roadie", and it's awesome. I love his writing.

I just couldn't contain myself tonight. A little background:

I have a nephew who I spent a lot of time with when he was little. As he got a little older, his mother decided to try living on her own and did not take him with her. I felt really bad for him and promised him I'd be there for him through this, his developing teen years. There were times he tried to tough it out but I always listened when he went through feelings of anger and what I felt was a bit of hatred for her actions.

Fast forward to this year. He is now 20. We went to an appreciation dinner in August for all the fund raisers that we do. There was a raffle and I was hoping to win this magenta pink (yes, this is Siu talkin') IPod. I have never had one and I thought it was the prettiest thing.

Well, he won it. I told him I'd buy it off of him for $150 and he told me he was going to give it to his gf.

Today for Christmas, he gave me a mug from where he works and in it was the pink Ipod, wrapped in a bunch of tissue paper. I was very shocked. I asked him if this was the same one, he said yes. I said to him that I thought he was giving it to his gf and he just shrugged. He smiled at me and it was really hard for me not to cry.

That kid is a trip.

I got a new bike; one almost as cool as the bright red 20" wheel "bananna seat" Huffy bike I got for Xmas when I was 9 y/o.

My mom worked all year at a crappy mimimum wage job to try and provide a decent Christmas for 4 kids, and to get me that bike - as my dad was ******* and an ogre, one who thought that, because his dad was also an ******* and an oger who didn't think he and his siblings deserved a Christmas, that it was okay to deprive his own kids the superficial materialistic enjoyment that a kid needs on a holiday like Christmas.

My new ride:
