I was visiting a friend when her sister came over and while we were in the living room talking the sister kept putting her fingers down the front of her shorts. Now and then she'd pull her fingers out and sniff them, then return them down her pants. It's really tough maintaining a conversation when someone is doing that every couple of minutes.

I think I'd describe this as more sad then disgusting (not that it's pleasant to witness) but my friend told me her sister (actually, half sister) had an excruciatingly sad childhood and youth. Apparently this is one of the results.

I'll second smoking. But keep it relevant to cycling.

Be sure to add some hair for roughage. And perhaps some of pgoat's slurry for extra moisture.

If it sticks to your ribs like it stuck to my clothes (I had to throw the shoes and pants out) that slurry will keep you going for days

This is more unnerving than disgusting, but I worked with a guy that had a spastic butt clench.

It was horrible watching him write on the white board.

I'd gladly take the nail clippings over the woman who used to floss her teeth on the train on the way to work.

#2 would be hearing a recording of the Hallellujah Chorus from Handel's "Messiah," featuring Tom Jones.

I'm not making either one up.

Normally I'd point out that that's not really a "bad habit," but gah.

Worst I've encountered was a guy who would spit his tobacco in a large clear Coke bottle every 20-45 seconds of any conversation with him. Said coke bottle would fill up over a period of weeks to months... ugh.

My buddy chews tobaco and spits in a cup. He had the cup(Burger King soda cup) on his work bench when our instructor walked by. The instructor grabs the cup and takes a drink. That was the last time he ever did that.

Haha, I saw someone do that last weekend. Incontinence on public transportation is a fun one, too.

Last semester, a guy in one of my classes would regularly forage in his nose for treats and eat what he found. He didn't try to hide it, either--he sat at the front of the class.

I've also seen guys at the library (university, not public, which is surprising in Berkeley) put their hand down the front of their pants (not sure about the underpants) and then use the mouse on the computers with the same hand.

I've also seen someone just sitting in his car with no pants on, holding his d!ck. I don't know if that qualifies as a habit, though--I didn't follow him around to find out.

This one was back in college, in the 90's. A guy (let's call him Joe) from our study group had an apartment right across the street from campus. When all study rooms were full at the library, we ended up Joe's apt. One day one of the guys was using the bathroom and Joe had to pee. He waited for a few minutes but said he could not longer hold it. He went to the kitchen area, took an empty glass, turned his back to us, unzipped and relieved himself on the glass.

He then zipped back, emptied the glass on the sink, washed it with some water (no soap or anything, just a little bit of water) and put it back on the table. We all almost puked. Thanks God we always went there with our own sodas and/or beers and never had used a glass from that apt.

That event was a defining point in my life. To this day, I never accept a drink when I'm visiting somebody, unless is a canned drink like a soda or a beer.

Your turn...

Pee is sterile. . .won't hurt a thing.

My daughter works at a theme park. They occasionally have to clean up "protein spills" from the little children coming off the rides. The grossest thing she has had to deal with was a large pile of #2 that was left in the line waiting for one of the rides. This has happened more than once. If I was waiting in line and some kid dropped his pants and left a pile I'd be the first one to call security or notify one of the park employees. Not one person in line notified the employees - my daughter said they just smelled it and found it that way.

Pee is ALMOST sterile. Virtually sterile, if you prefer, but I can assure you it is not. I had a friend that used to work at a urinalysis company very thoroughly explain to me once why it's not actually sterile and what can be found in it that makes it such. (does that count as a bad habit if he only did it once?)

I've been known to pee in a bottle in the car, and once camping, but this was a bottle I was going to THROW AWAY. A kitchen glass is entirely... ew.

How about cleaning your ears with car keys? Somebody else's car keys?

Here in Texas, its considered poor form to pick one's teeth with anyone else's truck keys. Much less clean ears.

mods might delete this one. enjoy it while it last

guy comes in to the porn shop on Sunday mornings, spends about 3 hours in the back with random guys and allowing them to climax on his shirt. Once he is done he then walks over to a nearby grocery store and does his morning shopping with the residue still drying on his shirt and face. He has been spotted by people at the grocery store more than once. I guess we all need hobbies, or just want to show off our trophies. One morning while I was half awake the manager at the grocery store called and chewed me out for not noticing him leaving our store, and called him a health hazard among several other mean and nasty things.
