Brooks died today. I forget his real name. From what I read he had a long and distinguished career.

Fine film.
Under all that love for expensive Canadian made bikes, pcad still has some redeeming qualities.

Might be my favorite movie.

Sorry Shadiyah, it's not the "Shadiyah Pose," it's the "Andy Dufresne Pose."

I heard a radio news story about Whitmore's death with an audio tape from the film soundtrack, that inspired me to rent the video, my wife and I watched it again tonight. What a powerful movie. I read the Stephen King story about ten years before the film was made, always loved that story, maybe my favorite S. King story ever. Perhaps the best film adaptation of modern literature I can recall, it's almost better than the original King story.

It's about redemption, friendship and hope. That ending slays me every time I see it.

I remember a few years back (and possibly still today), it seemed to air on TV at least on a weekly basis. I think on TV is the only way I've seen it. I should probably pick it up on DVD and watch the un-butchered version.

So how can Shawshank Redemption and Cool Hand Luke both be among my favorite movies?

We watched it on a regular DVD on our 40" LCD Samsung tonight (it's a Blu Ray player that allegedly 'upscales' the regular DVDs). On a 40" screen the picture quality was outstanding, and it really was like a mini-cinema screening. We both really enjoyed it.

Couldn't agree more. If i were a high school teacher I'd show it every year. I think it's a very deep story and the movie conveys all those messages with such power and grace. Certainly one of my top five movies of all time, and I've come to that conclusion over the past 15 years, because this film just haunts you, and you want to watch it again every several years. And when you do, it always seems fresh, it's always riveting, it's always extremely engaging and moving. I'm a huge film fan, and movies like Shawshank are rare gifts.

One of the best Stephen King adaptions. Always a top fave until Tim Robbins starts spouting off politics. Ruins it for everytime.

i'm getting seriously worried. I find myself agreeing more and more with pcad ramblings. Shawshank is number one on my favourite movies list. Followed closely by the usual suspects and the green mile.

am i going senile?
