I can't figure out why I'm feeling in a rut: I've been in CO for 5 months now. Made some great friends, have a feeling of job security (kinda, but not a huge worry anyway), am really enjoying volunteering, fundraising and triathlon training with the LLS, adopted a little pup that is a bit of a concern, but still fun... but I keep thinking about moving back to MN.
Yesterday I inquired about a job in the cities I think I have a shot at (and some connections, too).
I'm usually a very content person. It doesn't take a lot to please me, and I've never really felt the grass is greener elsewhere.
so, wtf?

I don't know but I think all Minnesotans have a magnet that pulls them back to the motherland eventually.

My marriage ended because of a similar situation. That being said it took me 7 or 8 months after moving to really get settled in and enjoy it (she stayed for about 5 months, 2 were were in the hospital and recovery). If you hold out and really make and effort to disconnect from homw you grow some roots and it will start feeling like home. It's been almost 2 years for me and now when I go back I don't like to stay more than a couple of days because I miss my new home.
I have to re-sign a lease in a few weeks. I'm signing for 3 months (for job security reasons) and then I'll see.
there are A LOT of things going on in MN this fall that makes it hard- weddings (3 best friends- 2 from college and 1 HS), camping weekends- its hard to chose, and I can't do it all.
Maybe I haven't made the connections out here I'd hoped, or maybe I'm just not seeing them?

It's the realization that you have the power to do what you want. You can go where you choose, it's not hard for you to get a job, you have no tie downs. Most people your age (and I say that because I'm old) are excited to go out and discover how far they can go with the tools that have been given.
You are a strong woman and that has all been proven to you, by you. You did it! You went out and did what a lot of people only dream about. You are secure, have the knowledge. You are not afraid and you now know that the world is at your fingertips.
Be proud of yourself, Arti. You've accomplished a hell of a lot. ((hugs))
And now that that is done, it's not unusual to want to go back to your roots.

I'm totally game! I've just been running around like a crazy woman the past few weeks, though. In a week I have another friend coming for another week. That makes 3 weeks of visitors out of 5!

This whole roots thing is kind of familiar to me. Moving to the US, to a new job, new friends, new everything was hard on me. In the beginning I hated it here and wanted to do nothing but move back to Europe. However, after a while you'll settle in, get friends, find the nice things of your area and not want to move back.
I learned that having very strong ties with some other place besides where you live (except parents, siblings and such) is generally not a good idea, as Crackerjab said. It makes you live in between two places and not settle anywhere. Once I let go of that, things got a lot more fun out here.
For me, other things were involved, such as the insane drama that is a regular part of my 'family-life', so YMMV.
Also, what Siu said is definitely true. I am assuming that you are highly educated or otherwise well qualified and can easily get a job. You move easily and that makes things other than job security important in life, things such as relationships, family, friends and doing the things you like.
Also, there is a massive kick to be had in just moving around the globe doing things here and there, living in different countries and cultures (I don't like backpacking because you're just rushing from country to country).
Who knows....all I can say is: Follow your heart, do what feels best and carries reasonable risk.

Wow, that's a lot of folks coming to visit from the old stomping grounds. That's likely part of the problem. You need a new crew to hang out with in CO. Make a bunch of new friends and put down some roots. Otherwise it'll never feel like home.

I agree. A few months before I got the job here, I almost bought a house. I think I'm ready to settle down
with a house. not a man, babies, or any of that craziness.
yeah, all your SO threads in foo aren't helping.
yeah, its a relationship I wish I could explore, but I feel very comfortable and confident with the unknown with him, we're on the same page.
