No, thats what I got when I turned the comp on. The message in my last post is what I got after the comp asked for the supplemental disc and I pressed "next"

Ok, here's what I want you to do. (assuming you can boot into the recovery CD again and your DVD drive isnt AWOL.

1. turn on the computer and insert disk 1 of the recovery CD's (if it isnt already in there, if it is skip to step 3)
2. turn off your computer
3. boot up your computer and do whatever you previously did to boot into the CD.
4. You should see something like this, assuming it's XP:

5. Choose "set up windows XP now" (in this example you would hit enter), NOT repair
6. Delete any partitions you have then press enter to install on the unpartitioned space

7. Format with either NTFS or Fat32, I would probably use NTFS but it's up to you. Use regular speed first and then if you encounter the same issue try again with quick or a different file type.

8. put in any additional CD's as needed

Hopefully if you do a clean install with the prior data deleted rather than a repair it will solve the supplementary disk problem. If it doesn't I can't really do anything else from here. If your computer is really old though, I don't know if it's worth the 75$ to fix it. That's up to you. Please note: I am not an expert at this, I learn as I go. If anyone here knows more about this please chime in if I did anything wrong.

Thanks anyways.

Yeah, I'm used to XP. We talked on the phone but he couldn't get it to even boot from the disk anymore. I believe he's currently working on getting into the bios...

worst comes to worst you can always purchase a new harddrive and reinstall vista (if you don't have the disk I can mail you one if you pay postage) here's the HDD I have (I've built my computers so I'm not sure if this would be compatible with whichever brand tower you have)

Download the latest Windows7-RC-beta from MS. Runs about 2x as fast as Vista on the same hardware (only slightly slower than XP).

Windblows 7 is what Vista was supposed to be, and from what I've been reading, it's pretty darn good.

Just so you know, I've never, ever, had a problem with Vista Ultimate till me wife unknowingly downloaded a virus, it worked flawlesly till then. also, heres an update, I got into bios, got the disc to load up there, and now it seems to be stuck on "Progress: 99% done"

My laptop that had Vista on it just fried the Motherboard rather horribly, and unfortunately, it was the exensive Dual Core processor motherboard, so it was cheaper to replace the laptop. I loaded a Legacy XP system on it, and hardened it with extra security and haven't been happier in a long time.
