Raw eggs do not appeal to me. You would need to use pasteurized ones to avoid salmonella.

Raw eggs are not recommended for consumption.
However... if you are concerned about getting sick off your eggs I recommend you invest in higher quality eggs.

you looking to increase your protein intake, or...?

Haha, none of the above. A Mexican friend of mine has told me that consumption of raw eggs is part of being a man, that every "MAN" she knows eats them, and that first blending them into smoothies offers a good transition into manhood.

Tell them our custom is the pickled egg.

1) must swallow hole
2) must not gag
3) eyes must not water
4) must not chase immediately

GO!

Another rite of passage is that if one can hold both ends of jumper cables while it is connected to a battery then you are manly.

I found this out the hard way. In a competition, I was sparring with a guy my size (but bulkier) with all of my might. I was using pressure points, leg bars and arm bars. I even resorted to going places that were borderline with rules. Sure I got him down but for some reason he didn't even act as if I was hurting him.

Upon conversation after, (there was no winner, it was a wash) I asked him if at any point did he feel like succumbing. He explained that nothing hurt him because he has nerve damage. He explained that the battery/cable thing was the reason.

Hmm, so I am reading that I can put the egg in boiling water for 60 seconds -- not enough time to cook it, but enough to kill any salmonella.

That's only if the salmonella is on the shell. If it's inside the egg itself, only hard-boiling it will work.

When I was a kid I drank a lot of "egg flips" (non-alcoholic...)

Haven't had one in years though

I grew up on egg flipps to. Maybe its an Australian name. Its just a raw egg, a dash of vanilla essence, a little sugar to taste and milk. The eggs are always raw. I still have raw egg yolks everyday. They are highly nutritious. If you have the whole egg raw thats OK but don't bother consuming egg whites only. They have no nutritional value.

About now everyone else in the world thinks you Americans are crazy for being paranoid about consuming raw eggs. Either that or wondering about just how bad your food supply is. If your not prepared to eat an egg raw then just don't eat it at all and buy better quality eggs.

For many reasons I consume free range eggs only and preferably organic free range when I can afford them.

Anthony

Yep, "egg flips" as well when a kid, and it came from Pennsylvania. However, they called it egg nog (non alcoholic). Because eggs used to come from local farms than being shipped from who knows where (and what craptastic conditions the chickens live in), getting parasites weren't an issue back then as it is now.

I remember reading somewhere that the nutrients in egg white are more readily absorbed when it's cooked solid, while those in the yolk are better absorbed liquid. Perfect justification for sunny-side-up fried eggs for breakfast IMO.

I'll let you in on a secret, a real man doesn't do things just because someone says it is part of being a man. Paradoxical, eh?

As for impressing women, most will respect you more if you do what you think is best.

I was going to say yes. Then I realised I probably wouldn't do it now. I did when I was living in South Africa - but then I trust the food more there.

If anyone's ever seen how American chicken farms are designed and run, you'll never eat an egg or chicken again! Free range is good, but kinda difficult for the boneless chickens.

Bingo. This is why I wouldn't eat a raw egg from anywhere but a local farm, if I chose this.

Growing up we always had a raw egg in our milkshakes and any other blended milk drink, but not now. As mentioned before they should be plenty fine if you get them from a local farmer. I like raw milk too.
