What ticks me off more than anything

I went to pick up my lovely, little girl at school. While waiting there outside in the courtyard this little kid came out justa swinging his bag. His mom was there and he walked right by her. She pipes up and says, "Don't you walk across that street alone."
He keeps walking.
"I'm telling you. If you walk across that street, I'm whoopin' yer tail."
Looks back, smiles. Keeps walking.
"I mean it. And I'm tellin' yer daddy. He'll getcha too."
Walks right across.
"Put your bag in the back seat."
Puts his bag in the trunk. Get's in the car and comes out with a candy bar.
"Don't eat that. It's melted."
Proceeds to open it.
"I mean it. Don't eat it. It's melted."
Gobbles it right up. Walks back smiling the whole way.
"When you get home yer in trouble."
I guaran-f'ing-tee you she took him to McDonalds and bought him a cone and did nothing to him when he got home.

I almost friggen lost it.

<sarcasm>But you wouldn't want to traumatize the little snowflake by punishing them for their actions</sarcasm>

I see it all the time and look at my toddler and warn: "Don't get any bright ideas".

My parents never did anything either, but just saying it was more than enough to scare us as kids.

Which unfortunately is not the same as a wise kid. And the prognosis does not look promising for him to become wise in the future, either.

The worst part is that this little darling will eventually grow up and get a job, and he'll probably come to work in my department. :notamused:

It takes a village to raise a child, man. You did this kid a disservice by not beating him about the head and shoulders with a baseball bat or 2x4.

substructure 05-22-09 02:57 PM

I should have tripped him as he walked by.

I don't understand how parents can not discipline their children, I mean, isn't that part of being a parent? When I was a little tyke (admittedly, not that long ago) my mother would yell while my dad spanked me. I wasn't bad all that often, believe me.

I used FTFW today once. But your FTMFW is waaayyyy cooler. May I? I mean, use it sometime?

KingTermite 05-22-09 03:51 PM

But spanking is cruel punishment. You can't spank....somebody may call Child Protective Services.

coasting 05-22-09 03:51 PM

I saw someone else use it once, so now it's mine and no one else can use it. :p

You can't spank your kids. Parents get trouble if they do, (most) schools won't because they're afraid they will get sued. Da' Man considers it a form of abuse.

When the kids grow some and start ditching school, some parents are being hauled into court and fined. So now parents are considered neglectful.

Meh, when I was a kid, I could run around the neighborhood and stay outside all day until the street lights started coming on. And play in the dirt.

Now, dirt is bad. The kids can't play outside unless they are shackled to a responsible person. My wife has had the policed sicced on her before, because she let the children play outside, while she stayed inside, but looking through the windows. She avoided a citation by being out of the house before the cops could get out of their car, thus proving that she was aware of what was going on.

Sounds rather like someone I knew whilst growing up.

FlyingAnchor 05-22-09 09:05 PM

The mother needs the spanking, then the kid. I bet the mother never ...... Nah, not worth it. :)

Wordbiker 05-22-09 10:09 PM

You know what ticks me off more than anything? Indian givers.

No, wait...I take that back...
